🕊️ Devotional on 1 Corinthians 15:24–58
📖 Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 15
⸻
Introduction
The fifteenth chapter of 1 Corinthians has one central theme: the resurrection of the dead and the eternal hope of believers. Paul directs the eyes of the church in Corinth toward eternity. Many had been deceived and were living as if death was the end of everything. But Paul makes it clear: this is a lie of the enemy.
⸻
The Last Enemy: Death
The focus here will be on Verses 24-58.The main theme of this entire chapter is the resurrection of the dead and the eternal hope of the believer: what happens to the believer after death.
Paul the Apostle was encouraging the Church at Corinth to have eternity in view. It is obvious from his words that some of them were living in sin because they had been deceived by satan that it didn’t really matter how they lived their lives, after all, death was the ultimate. This was a deception from the pit of hell. Paul explained that death itself would be abolished someday, as it is the last enemy to be destroyed.
“The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” (1 Corinthians 15:26)
⸻
A Call to Righteousness
He went further to charge them to awake to righteousness and stop living in sin.
“Awake to righteousness and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.” (1 Corinthians 15:34)
He then addressed the question among the people who were saying “How would the dead be raised and what type of body would a dead person resurrect with?” He explained that there are heavenly bodies like the sun, moon and stars while there are earthly bodies like man, animal and plant. He further stressed that heavenly bodies also differ in glory.
The main point is, when we resurrect, God will give us a new body that is not subject to death or decay.
⸻
The Trumpet of God
In conclusion, he emphasized that a day is coming when the trumpet of God shall sound!
“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:52-55)
⸻
A Personal Question
When the trumpet sounds, will you hear?If you have not surrendered your heart to Jesus, to accept Him as your Lord and personal Saviour, you lack the necessary equipment to hear. Are you distracted by the cares of this world? Are you carried away by the burdens of daily living?Surrender your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ today. Make room for Him in your heart.
⸻
Encouragement for Believers
If you are already saved, continue fellowshipping with the Lord daily in prayer and in the word. Paul the Apostle concluded with these words of encouragement:
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
God has a reward system and He is too faithful to fail. Keep walking with Him while you work for Him. Don’t just “work” for Him without walking with Him and obeying His instructions.
⸻
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for the living hope we have through Your resurrection. Thank You that death has been defeated and that in You we have eternal life. Help us to live watchfully, to avoid sin, and to surrender our hearts completely to You. Strengthen us to remain steadfast and unmovable until You return. Let us serve You faithfully, knowing that nothing we do for You is in vain.Amen.
Amen,
