Theme: Raising Spirit-Filled Disciples for the Unleashing Agenda

Bold Faith Under Fire – When the Gospel Confronts Authority
📖 Scripture Reading: Acts 4:1–22
⸻
Opening Reflection
Praise the Lord, church.
As we continue our journey through the book of Acts, we are not merely reading church history—we are studying the pattern of discipleship that God still expects from His Church today.
Acts chapter 4 reveals an important spiritual principle: power attracts opposition. Whenever the gospel advances, resistance will arise. Spirit-filled disciples must therefore learn not only how to minister powerfully, but also how to stand boldly under pressure.
Before you read, pause and pray:
“Holy Spirit, give me understanding and boldness as I read Your Word.”
Now open your Bible to Acts 4:1–22 and read carefully.
⸻
1. The Gospel Provokes Resistance (Acts 4:1–4)
Peter and John were still speaking when the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees confronted them. Why?
Because they were teaching the people and proclaiming the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Sadducees denied the resurrection (Matthew 22:23), so the message of Jesus directly challenged both their theology and authority. Truth always exposes false foundations.
Yet despite the arrest, the Bible says many believed, and the number of men grew to about five thousand.
👉 This number most likely refers to men alone—excluding women and children—showing the explosive growth of the Church, even in the face of persecution.
Key insight:
Opposition did not stop the harvest. Before resistance showed up, the Word had already entered hearts.
⸻
2. Opposition Often Comes from Religious Authority (Acts 4:5–7)
The next day, Peter and John were brought before rulers, elders, scribes, and the high-priestly family.
They asked:
📖 “By what power or by what name have you done this?” (Acts 4:7)
This was not a question of curiosity—it was a question of control.
In the spirit realm, every supernatural act seeks a source. Religion without the Spirit always feels threatened by genuine spiritual power and tries to regulate what it cannot reproduce.
⸻
3. Spirit-Filled Disciples Speak with Divine Boldness (Acts 4:8–10)
📖 “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said…” (Acts 4:8)
This is crucial. Boldness did not come from Peter’s education or position—it came from being filled with the Holy Spirit.
Peter boldly declared that the healing was done in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom they crucified but whom God raised from the dead.
Spirit-filled disciples do not shrink under pressure. They speak with clarity, conviction, and authority.
⸻
4. Jesus Is the Only Foundation of Salvation (Acts 4:11–12)
Peter quoted Psalm 118:22:
📖 “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.”
Then he made one of the strongest declarations in Scripture:
📖 “Nor is there salvation in any other…” (Acts 4:12)
This message was uncompromising. The apostles never preached multiple paths to God. The gospel is Christ alone (John 14:6).
Truth may offend—but it also liberates.
⸻
5. Intimacy with Jesus Produces Spiritual Authority (Acts 4:13)
The council perceived that Peter and John were uneducated and untrained men, yet they marveled.
Why?
📖 “They realized that they had been with Jesus.”
Time spent with Jesus produces authority that education alone cannot give.
Oil flows from intimacy, not information.
⸻
6. Evidence Silences Opposition (Acts 4:14–18)
The healed man—over forty years old (Acts 4:22)—was standing right there. The miracle could not be denied.
So instead of repenting, the leaders commanded Peter and John not to speak in the name of Jesus.
When truth cannot be denied, it is often suppressed.
This is still happening today.
⸻
7. Obedience to God Is Non-Negotiable (Acts 4:19–20)
Peter and John replied:
📖 “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.”
They chose obedience over safety.
Spirit-filled disciples do not negotiate obedience—even when threatened.
⸻
8. Pressure Advances God’s Glory (Acts 4:21–22)
Though they were threatened again, the leaders could not punish them because the people were glorifying God.
What the enemy meant to silence the Church only amplified God’s glory.
Pressure did not weaken the gospel—it propelled it.
⸻
Final Exhortation
Church, the early disciples did not pray for escape—they prayed for boldness.
The gospel advances through Spirit-filled courage, not comfort.
As we raise Spirit-filled disciples for the Unleashing Agenda, we must prepare believers not only to receive miracles—but to stand for truth under fire.

Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for Your Word. Fill us with boldness like Peter and John. Help us obey You above all else and stand firm for the gospel. Let our lives point people to Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Personal Prayer
Holy Spirit, fill me afresh. Give me courage to speak, strength to stand, and grace to obey. Use my life for Your glory. Amen.
