Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi
Theme: Raising Spirit-Filled Disciples for the Unleashing Agenda

Introduction
Family, the more I bring this devotion, the more joyful I become. It is not a burden — it is a privilege to feed God’s people, not only on Sundays but every day. Please say a word of prayer for me and my family 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
As we continue through the Book of Acts, it becomes clearer that God is not just building a gathering — He is raising Spirit-filled people. Spirit-filled leaders. Spirit-filled disciples. Spirit-filled homes. Spirit-filled mothers and fathers. Spirit-filled children. Spirit-filled professionals in every field.
Jesus said,
📖 “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” (Acts 1:8).
The Book of Acts is not just history; it is the blueprint of what the church should look like when the Spirit is fully at work.
When we arrive at Acts 6, we begin to see what multiplication does to a church — and how Spirit-filled wisdom sustains it.
⸻
1. Multiplication Exposes Structural Gaps
📖 “Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint…” (Acts 6:1).
The issue did not arise when the church was small. It arose when the church multiplied. Growth exposed weaknesses in structure. The Hellenist widows felt neglected in the daily distribution.
The Hellenist Jews were Greek-speaking Jews who had adopted elements of Greek culture while still practicing Judaism. Many had returned to Jerusalem from the diaspora. Because of cultural and language differences, they were sometimes marginalized by the Hebraic Jews. This tension surfaced when growth increased.
Church, whenever God increases us, pressure reveals what must be strengthened. Spirit-filled believers must not respond emotionally when misunderstandings arise.
📖 “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).
When growth brings friction, we address it from the Spirit, not from our feelings.
⸻
2. Leadership Must Protect Prayer and the Word
The apostles said,
📖 “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables… but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:2,4).
They were not despising service or acting too important to address practical matters. Rather, they were protecting spiritual priority. When leaders abandon prayer and the Word to manage every issue — sound, microphones, minor disputes, and logistics — spiritual authority weakens.
The enemy often attacks multiplication through distraction. When prayer decreases, power decreases. When the Word is neglected, clarity is lost.
That is why leadership must appoint Spirit-filled people who can handle practical matters with wisdom, so that the altar of prayer and the ministry of the Word remain strong. This year, we are being careful not to choose leaders based only on gifting, but with a renewed focus on Spirit-filled individuals.
⸻
3. Spirit-Filled and Wise People Sustain Growth
The apostles instructed the church to choose men
📖 “of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom” (Acts 6:3).
Do you have a good reputation at your workplace, school, or home?
They did not look for eloquence or outward talent. There is a difference between gifted people and Spirit-filled people. Gifted people give what they have. Spirit-filled people produce what the Spirit supplies.
📖 “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord” (Zechariah 4:6).
They also required wisdom.
📖 “Through wisdom a house is built” (Proverbs 24:3).
📖 “The Lord by wisdom founded the earth” (Proverbs 3:19).
Without wisdom, knowledge is empty. Without the Spirit, gifting is shallow.
And when they chose Spirit-filled men,
📖 “the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly” (Acts 6:7).
Healthy, Spirit-filled leadership produces multiplication.
⸻
4. The Anointing Attracts Opposition
Stephen, one of the chosen men, was
📖 “full of faith and power” (Acts 6:8).
Signs and wonders followed his life.
But as power increased, opposition arose.
📖 “They were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke” (Acts 6:10).
When arguments failed, they stirred up false witnesses.
Church, those who seriously persecute the church are often not atheists but religious people without revelation. Sometimes they belong to different religious affiliations; sometimes they are people who rebel within the church and carry independent spirits.
📖 “The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life” (2 Corinthians 3:6).
Without the Holy Spirit, even Scripture can be misapplied. But when the Holy Spirit speaks through a vessel, the words carry life.
📖 Jesus said, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).
That is why first-time visitors who enter our church often say they feel God’s presence throughout the service and the sermon. It is not about eloquence. It is the Spirit activating the Word with wisdom and power.
⸻
5. Spirit-Filled People Reflect Heaven Under Pressure
Despite accusations,
📖 “all who sat in the council… saw his face as the face of an angel” (Acts 6:15).
Under pressure, Stephen reflected heaven. Spirit-filled believers carry peace even in confrontation.
📖 “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12).
Church, we need Spirit-filled husbands and wives. Spirit-filled children. Spirit-filled leaders. Spirit-filled workers.
When the church is filled with the Spirit and guided by wisdom, multiplication becomes healthy, opposition is handled correctly, and the Word continues to spread.

Where has growth exposed weaknesses in my life, my home, or our church?
Am I protecting prayer and the Word as a priority?
Am I seeking to be gifted — or truly Spirit-filled and wise?
