Theme: Serving God with your time, tithes and offering

Introduction

Hello Church!

Welcome once again to our daily devotion.

As we continue our journey through the Book of Revelation, we now arrive at chapter 18. In Revelation 17, we saw God’s judgment upon the great harlot, representing Babylon. Today, Revelation 18 continues that picture by revealing the complete downfall of Babylon.

As we begin this new month under the theme “Serving God with Our Time, Tithes, and Offerings,” this chapter challenges us to ask an important question:

Where am I investing my life?

Am I investing my time in God’s presence or in the distractions of this world?

Am I using my resources to build God’s Kingdom or simply to build my own comfort?

As we study this chapter, may the Holy Spirit teach us how to invest our lives in what has eternal value.

Understanding Babylon

Before we go any further, Church, let us first understand what Babylon represents.

Throughout the Bible, Babylon is more than a geographical city. It represents a system that opposes God. It is a worldly system built upon pride, greed, idolatry, immorality, luxury, deception, and rebellion against God’s authority.

Historically, Babylon was one of the greatest empires in the ancient world. It was wealthy, influential, and admired by many nations. Yet beneath its beauty was corruption, oppression, idolatry, and wickedness. For this reason, throughout Scripture Babylon becomes a symbol of every system that exalts itself against God.

Church, Babylon is not merely about one city. It represents every culture, institution, government, business, or influence that seeks to replace God’s truth with worldly values.

Whenever people love pleasure more than holiness…

Whenever money becomes more important than righteousness…

Whenever immorality is celebrated instead of condemned…

Whenever success is pursued without God…

The spirit of Babylon is at work.

That is why Revelation 18 is still relevant today.

We see societies becoming increasingly immoral. Pornography has become a global industry. Human trafficking continues to destroy lives. Sexual immorality is promoted as normal. Families are breaking apart. Greed and corruption influence governments and businesses. Through media, entertainment, technology, and social platforms, one nation influences another until compromise spreads across the world.

Church, this is exactly what Revelation describes. Babylon intoxicates the nations until they no longer recognise the difference between truth and error.

But there is good news.

God has already declared Babylon’s end.

Every system built on rebellion will fall.

Every influence that opposes Christ will be judged.

Every kingdom that rejects God will one day collapse.

Only the Kingdom of Jesus Christ will remain forever.

That is why our monthly theme is so important.

God calls us to serve Him with our time, our tithes, and our offerings. Instead of investing our lives in Babylon, we are called to invest in the Kingdom of God—a Kingdom that will never pass away.

1. Babylon’s Judgment Is Announced

Revelation 18:1–3

John writes:

“And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen…” (Revelation 18:1–2a, KJV)

Church, notice something remarkable.

This is no ordinary angel. John says he came with great authority, and the whole earth was illuminated by his glory. The message he carried was so important that it was proclaimed with a mighty voice for all to hear.

The angel declared:

“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.” (Revelation 18:2, KJV)

Church, Babylon looked beautiful from the outside.

It looked wealthy.

It looked successful.

It looked influential.

But heaven saw something completely different.

Heaven saw a place occupied by demons, unclean spirits, and everything that opposed God’s holiness.

This teaches us that appearances can be deceiving. Not everything that shines has God’s approval.

Verse 3 continues:

“For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” (Revelation 18:3, KJV)

Notice that all nations were influenced by Babylon.

Church, sin is contagious.

One nation embraces compromise.

Another nation copies it.

One culture celebrates immorality.

Soon the whole world follows.

Today we witness this through global media and entertainment. Behaviours that once shocked society are now celebrated and exported around the world. Babylon has intoxicated the nations.

The merchants also became rich through her luxury.

Church, there is nothing wrong with prosperity when it comes from God. Abraham, Job, and David were blessed by God. But Babylon represents wealth built through greed, exploitation, corruption, sexual immorality, and systems that profit from human brokenness.

God declares that such wealth cannot stand forever.

2. God’s Merciful Call

Revelation 18:4–8

Then John hears another voice from heaven saying:

“Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” (Revelation 18:4, KJV)

Church, before judgment comes, God always extends mercy.

Before destruction comes, He gives a warning.

Before punishment comes, He calls His people to separate themselves.

He warned Noah before the flood.

He warned Lot before Sodom was destroyed.

He warned Nineveh through Jonah.

Now He warns His Church to come out of Babylon.

Coming out of Babylon does not necessarily mean leaving a city. It means leaving behind compromise, pride, greed, immorality, deception, and every lifestyle that competes with our devotion to Jesus Christ.

This is where our monthly theme becomes practical.

Serving God with our time means spending time in His presence instead of being consumed by worldly distractions.

Serving God with our tithes and offerings means using what He has entrusted to us to advance His Kingdom instead of living only for temporary pleasures.

Verse 5 gives a sobering warning:

“For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.” (Revelation 18:5, KJV)

Church, God is patient, but He is also just.

He does not always judge sin immediately. In His mercy He gives people opportunities to repent. But when sin reaches its full measure, judgment follows. We see this same principle in Genesis 15:16, where God delayed judgment because “the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.”

Yet even while speaking about judgment, we must remember the hope of the Gospel.

Isaiah reminds us:

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5, KJV)

Church, this is our hope.

Jesus bore our transgressions.

Jesus carried our iniquities.

While Babylon faces judgment, everyone who turns to Christ can receive mercy, forgiveness, and eternal life.

May we hear His voice today, come out of every form of compromise, and faithfully invest our time, our tithes, our offerings, and our lives in the everlasting Kingdom of God.

3. The World Mourns What God Has Judged

Revelation 18:9–20

John now shifts our attention from heaven to the earth. While heaven has declared Babylon’s fall, the people who benefited from her begin to mourn.

The Bible says:

“And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning.” (Revelation 18:9, KJV)

Church, notice something interesting. Those who once celebrated Babylon are now the very ones mourning her destruction. The kings, merchants, and businessmen who trusted in her wealth, luxury, and influence suddenly realize that everything they built their lives upon has disappeared.

The Bible repeatedly says:

“For in one hour is thy judgment come.” (Revelation 18:10, KJV)

Again, it says:

“For in one hour so great riches is come to nought.” (Revelation 18:17, KJV)

Church, one hour!

What took generations to build was destroyed in a moment.

This teaches us that no matter how powerful a system may appear, when God declares its end, no army, no government, no economy, no technology, no sophisticated weapon, and no human wisdom can preserve it. When God’s appointed time arrives, His judgment cannot be resisted.

John describes merchants mourning because they can no longer sell their gold, silver, precious stones, fine linen, ivory, spices, livestock, and many other luxury goods. Then he says something that should make every believer stop and think.

Among their merchandise were:

”…slaves, and souls of men.” (Revelation 18:13, KJV)

Church, what a tragic picture.

Human beings had become merchandise.

Lives had become business.

People had become products.

This reminds us of the many systems we still see today that profit from the suffering of others. Human trafficking, sexual exploitation, pornography, slavery, addiction, and every industry that destroys human dignity are all evidence of what happens when people value profit above people.

Church, never envy wealth that is built upon unrighteousness.

Never admire success that ignores God.

Not every open door comes from the Lord.

Some riches come through compromise, but they never last.

Jesus said:

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth… But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” (Matthew 6:19–20, KJV)

That is why our monthly theme is so important.

Serving God with our time means investing our lives in His presence.

Serving Him with our tithes and offerings means advancing His Kingdom rather than the kingdom of Babylon.

Every soul won…

Every missionary supported…

Every church planted…

Every child discipled…

Every offering given with the right heart…

Is an investment that will never be destroyed.

Church, the world cries over what it has lost.

Heaven rejoices over what God has accomplished.

Verse 20 declares:

“Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.” (Revelation 18:20, KJV)

Notice that heaven rejoices because God’s justice has finally been revealed. Those who mocked God’s servants, persecuted believers, and opposed the Gospel will not escape His righteous judgment.

Church, this should encourage every believer who has suffered for Christ. God sees every sacrifice, every tear, every act of faithfulness, and every injustice committed against His people.

Nothing escapes His attention.

4. Babylon’s End Is Final

Revelation 18:21–24

John then sees a mighty angel take a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying:

“Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.” (Revelation 18:21, KJV)

Church, this is not a temporary setback.

This is complete and final judgment.

The angel goes on to describe what will disappear forever.

The sound of musicians will be heard no more.

The voices of singers will cease.

Craftsmen will no longer work.

The sound of industry will stop.

The light of lamps will go out.

Even the joyful voices of brides and bridegrooms will no longer be heard.

Everything that once made Babylon appear alive suddenly comes to an end.

Church, this reminds us that every earthly kingdom is temporary.

Entertainment cannot save us.

Business cannot save us.

Luxury cannot save us.

Politics cannot save us.

Only Jesus Christ saves.

The chapter concludes by revealing why Babylon received such severe judgment.

“For by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.” (Revelation 18:23, KJV)

Church, Babylon deceived the nations.

She made evil appear good.

She made compromise appear acceptable.

She influenced cultures to reject God’s truth.

This reminds us of the warning Jesus gave to the church at Thyatira concerning Jezebel, who led God’s servants into immorality and spiritual compromise. Whenever deception enters God’s people, it always leads them away from holiness.

The final verse says:

“And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.” (Revelation 18:24, KJV)

Church, Babylon was not merely immoral.

She opposed God’s servants.

She persecuted the righteous.

She fought against the prophets, the apostles, and the saints.

But God remembered every drop of innocent blood.

This should comfort us.

No matter how powerful evil appears today, God has the final word.

Let us therefore continue to pray for our families, our churches, our communities, and the nations of the world. Let us intercede that we will never compromise with the spirit of Babylon but remain faithful to Jesus Christ until He returns.

Church, never forget this:

Babylon may influence the world for a season, but the Kingdom of Jesus Christ will reign forever.

Let us build our lives upon the only Kingdom that can never be shaken.

Reflection

Church, Revelation 18 is not merely about the destruction of a future city. It is a mirror that invites every believer to examine where our hearts truly are.

Babylon represents every system that competes with God’s Kingdom. It promises pleasure without holiness, wealth without righteousness, success without God, and influence without truth. Yet God has already declared its end.

As believers, we must ask ourselves:

* Am I investing my time in what is eternal or what is temporary?

* Am I honouring God with my tithes and offerings, or am I consumed by material possessions?

* Am I allowing the world’s values to shape my thinking, or am I renewing my mind through God’s Word?

* If Jesus returned today, would He find me faithfully serving His Kingdom?

Church, everything Babylon offered disappeared in one hour, but everything done for Jesus Christ will remain forever.

Our time is precious.

Our resources are entrusted to us by God.

Our lives are an opportunity to glorify Him.

Let us therefore use every day to seek His presence, serve His Church, preach the Gospel, disciple others, and invest in what has eternal value.

One day, Babylon will be remembered no more.

But the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ will never pass away.

Prayer Points

1. Pray for Faithful Stewardship

Father, thank You for entrusting me with time, gifts, and resources. Help me to use every moment wisely for Your glory. Teach me to redeem the time because the days are evil, and let my life bear fruit that will remain for eternity.

2. Pray for a Heart of Generosity

Lord, give me a willing and cheerful heart to honour You with my tithes and offerings. Help me never to trust in riches but in You alone. May everything You place in my hands become a blessing to Your Kingdom and to those around me.

3. Pray for Holiness and Separation

Father, help me to come out of every form of Babylon in my life. Remove every spirit of compromise, pride, greed, immorality, and worldliness. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and strengthen me to walk in holiness every day.

4. Pray for the Church

Pray for Fortified City Church, Love City Church, and the entire Body of Christ throughout the world. Ask God to keep His Church pure, united, and uncompromising. Pray that pastors, evangelists, prophets, teachers, missionaries, elders, deacons, and every believer will remain faithful to the Gospel until Christ returns.

5. Pray for Our Nations

Lift up your nation before the Lord. Pray that God will expose corruption, restrain evil, and bring revival to the nations. Ask Him to raise righteous leaders who fear God and govern with justice, and pray that many who are trapped in the systems of Babylon will come to repentance through the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

6. Pray for Souls

Pray for your family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, and those who do not yet know Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to open doors for evangelism and give you boldness to share the Gospel. As long as there is life, there is still an opportunity for salvation.

Charge

Church, Babylon looked magnificent, but it fell.

Its wealth disappeared.

Its influence vanished.

Its music stopped.

Its celebrations ended.

Its lights went out.

Everything that seemed permanent proved to be temporary.

Do not spend your life chasing what God has already declared will pass away.

Redeem your time.

Honour God with your tithes.

Worship Him through your offerings.

Build your family upon God’s Word.

Support the work of the Gospel.

Remain faithful when others compromise.

Intercede for your church, your community, and the nations.

Remember that we are not citizens of Babylon—we are citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven.

One day we shall stand before the Lamb, not because of our own righteousness, but because of His grace. May He find us faithful, serving Him wholeheartedly with our time, our tithes, our offerings, and our lives.

“No one who faithfully builds God’s Kingdom will ever labour in vain.”

May the Lord strengthen you to remain faithful until the glorious appearing of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
