Daily Bible Plan - 2 John 1

13. April 2026

Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi

Theme: Sharing the Love of Christ to the Undying World — Church Without Walls

✨ Introduction

The letter of 2 John, though brief, carries a profound pastoral tone—calling believers to walk in truth, love deeply, and remain spiritually discerning in a world full of deception.

🏡 1. The Identity: The Elect Lady and Her Children (vv. 1–3)

John addresses “the elect lady and her children,” and this carries a rich dual meaning:

• It could refer to a specific faithful woman and her household, a believer chosen by God and actively involved in ministry. In the early church, women played vital roles in hosting and supporting the work of God (see Acts 16:14–15).

• It can also symbolically represent the Church, often described in feminine terms in Scripture as the bride of Christ (see Ephesians 5:25–27; 2 Corinthians 11:2).

📖 The “elect” are those chosen by God for eternity (Romans 8:33).

👉 This means John is not just writing to an individual—but potentially to a spiritual household, a local church, and by extension, the body of Christ.

📖 Reflection:

Do you see yourself as part of God’s chosen family, walking in truth together with others?

❤️ 2. The Joy of Spiritual Fathers: Walking in Truth (vv. 4–6)

John expresses deep joy that the children are walking in truth.

🔥 This reveals the heart of every true spiritual leader:

• Our joy is not in material success—cars, houses, or outward achievements.

• Our greatest joy is when people love Jesus, obey Him, and walk in truth.

📖 3 John 1:4 – “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”

This is the heartbeat of pastors, shepherds, and spiritual parents. When believers grow in Christ, it brings heaven’s joy.

💡 Love is not just spoken—it is lived through obedience (John 14:15).

📖 Reflection:

What brings you joy? Does your life reflect a love for truth and obedience to Christ?

⚠️ 3. The Warning: Guard the Doctrine (vv. 7–11)

John gives a strong and urgent warning about deceivers:

• Those who deny Jesus Christ have gone the way of the antichrist (1 John 4:1–3).

• Not every teaching, voice, or influence is from God.

🚫 The instruction is clear:

• Do not receive or entertain teachings that contradict the truth you have received.

• Do not give platform to those who distort the gospel.

📖 Romans 16:17 – “Mark those who cause divisions… and avoid them.”

📖 Galatians 1:8 – “If anyone preaches another gospel… let him be accursed.”

🛡️ 4. Guarding Your Spiritual Covering

This is very practical and pastoral:

If you received salvation and are growing through a God-ordained house—such as your local church—be careful about exposing yourself to contrary doctrines.

• Not every voice has contributed to your salvation.

• Not every teaching carries the same grace over your life.

⚠️ Listening to conflicting doctrines can:

• Confuse your spirit

• Weaken your convictions

• Pull you away from your spiritual foundation

💡 Scripture warns us not to partner with error (2 John 1:10–11).

👉 This is not about isolation, but about protection and discernment.

📖 Reflection:

Are you guarding your heart against teachings that subtly pull you away from truth?

🤝 5. The Call to Love and Discernment Together

This message is not just about warning—it is about balance:

• Walk in love

• Remain in truth

• Exercise discernment

The church (the “elect lady”) must:

• Love genuinely

• Stand firmly in doctrine

• Reject deception without compromise

🌍 Vision Connection (Global Prayer Hub / FCC / LCC)

This passage speaks directly to building a strong and healthy spiritual community:

• A people grounded in truth

• A church walking in love

• A family protected from deception

📖 Supporting Scriptures:

• John 8:32 – Truth brings freedom

• Matthew 24:4 – “Take heed that no one deceives you”

• Ephesians 4:14 – No longer tossed by every wind of doctrine

Today this devotion, together with Proverbs 1, showed me how important it is to walk in truth and obedience.

• It is so beautiful to see the love and joy John has when he sees his children walking in truth.

For me, this also reflects how God our Father rejoices when we keep His commandments not out of control or obligation, but because of the love He has for us.

We should be able to discern what God’s teaching is and follow it:

“Whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Proverbs 1:33

Thank you Pastor Joseph for this devotion, and thank you to the Comms Team.

May God bless you richly…
