📖 Devotion Theme: Living Your Faith in the Public Sphere

Scripture Focus: Philippians 4:1–9 (NKJV)

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6–7

🕊 Title: Don’t Worry — Pray and Think Differently

🔍 Reflection:

In Philippians 4, Paul gives a personal and pastoral exhortation to the church in Philippi. He begins by addressing two women—Euodia and Syntyche—who had a disagreement. Yet despite their conflict, Paul acknowledges that these women labored zealously in the gospel and supported his ministry.

This shows us that even among dedicated believers, disagreements can happen. It’s not new. What matters is how we handle them. Paul doesn’t dismiss their work—he affirms that their names are in the Book of Life. How could he say that? Because Paul was a spiritual man, in constant communion with the Holy Spirit. He saw beyond the conflict and into their eternal value.

In the same way, I want to pause and honor those who labor with me in this ministry:

👩🏽‍❤‍👨🏽 First, my beloved wife, Lady Reverend Anita Antwi, who stands beside me with strength and grace. Even tonight, as I write this devotion, she has given me the space, support, and prayer cover to do what God has called me to do.

💻 Second, I deeply appreciate Deaconess Ruth Ahiabor, our Head of the Communications Team at Fortified City Church. Your consistency, commitment, and tireless work have been vital to this devotion and the broader ministry. To the entire communications team—your effort is seen and valued.

🧑🏽‍💼 I also want to acknowledge my Presiding Elder and his family for their constant and unwavering support. You have been a spiritual pillar and encouragement.

🏛 A heartfelt thank you to the entire Officers Board of Fortified City Church for your sacrifices, time, and commitment to the ministry. Your efforts, both visible and unseen, have carried us far.

🙌🏾 And to all ministry leaders, Love City Church (LCC) leaders, executives, and every person playing a role—big or small—in Fortified City Church and Love City Youth Church: May the good Lord bless you richly for your dedication and service. You are all part of the legacy God is building.

🙏🏾 Verses 6–7 – Be Anxious for Nothing

Paul gives this powerful instruction:

“Be anxious for nothing…”

In our world today, anxiety is everywhere. There’s pressure from society, social media comparisons, financial burdens, and personal fears. But Paul reminds us that worry is not a tool—it’s a trap.

Let me say this clearly:

Worry doesn’t change anything. In fact, it creates more problems.

Worry affects us mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. That’s why Jesus said in Matthew 6:25–34, “Do not worry about your life… what you will eat, drink, or wear.” He reminds us that if God takes care of the birds and lilies, He will take care of us too.

Paul’s answer to worry?

Pray with thanksgiving.

Prayer doesn’t always remove the storm, but it releases a supernatural peace in the storm. This peace—God’s peace—“surpasses all understanding”. It doesn’t make logical sense. People may look at your situation and ask, “How are you still standing?” And your answer will be:

“Because I prayed, and God gave me peace.”

🧠 Verse 8 – Think on These Things

After addressing worry, Paul tells us what to fill our minds with:

“Whatever is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report… think on these things.”

Your thoughts shape your life. As Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

If your mind is full of fear, negativity, and bitterness, you will live in defeat—even as a believer. But if you train your mind to focus on God’s promises, His truth, and the beauty of His ways, you will walk in strength and peace.

Let me be personal: In my late 20s, I held on to certain thoughts and dreams about my future—marriage, education, and purpose. Not all of them came quickly, but most are becoming reality today. Why? Because I refused to dwell on failure. I thought on things that were excellent, faith-filled, and God-honoring.

Paul is reminding us that the battlefield is the mind. If you can win in your thoughts, you can win in life. That’s why Philippians 4:8 is one of my favorite scriptures—and it should be your secret weapon too.

When doubt rises—quote it.

When fear whispers—pray it.

When you’re overwhelmed—meditate on it.

🛠 Practical Takeaways:

• Don’t normalize worry—normalize prayer.

• Shift your focus from what’s going wrong to what God says is right.

• Think about what is true, pure, and of good report.

• Take Philippians 4:6–8 as your go-to remedy for fear and anxiety.

• Acknowledge those who walk with you in the gospel—ministry is not a solo race.

🙏🏾 Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I surrender every anxious thought to You. Help me to pray more and worry less. Let Your peace that surpasses all understanding rule in my heart and guard my mind. Teach me to think on things that honor You, and help me appreciate the people You’ve placed in my life and ministry. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

📣 Final Word:
