Please take your time to read this devotion and underline the Bible verses in your Bible as you go along. Allow about 30 minutes to read the devotion and Scriptures thoughtfully, reflecting on what God is teaching you through His Word.

1. UNDERSTANDING THE FAST GOD DESIRES

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 58:6–10 (NKJV)

Welcome to the first day of our three days of fasting and prayer.

In Isaiah 58, God reveals the kind of fast that pleases Him. True fasting goes beyond abstaining from food. It involves breaking the chains of wickedness, helping the oppressed, sharing with those in need, and treating others justly.

Our fasting must produce a change in our hearts, relationships, and conduct. We cannot claim to seek God while mistreating others or allowing injustice to continue.

As we fast, let us seek not only personal breakthroughs but also transformation in our churches, communities, and nations.

2. JESUS SAID, “WHEN YOU FAST”

Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:16–18

Jesus said, “When you fast,” showing that fasting is an important part of our walk with God.

Throughout Scripture, we see people who fasted and experienced God’s intervention:

* Esther: Fasted for deliverance (Esther 4:15–16).

* Jehoshaphat: Proclaimed a fast when Judah faced danger (2 Chronicles 20:3–4).

* Daniel: Sought God through prayer and fasting (Daniel 9:3–5).

* The Antioch Church: Fasted and prayed before sending out ministers (Acts 13:1–3).

As we fast, let us seek God’s wisdom, protection, intervention, and power for the advancement of His Kingdom.

3. WHY ARE WE FASTING FOR THE CHURCH?

Scriptures: Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 3:10–11

Jesus declared in Matthew 16:18 (NKJV):

“I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”

The Church belongs to Jesus Christ, and it has a divine assignment on earth. Ephesians 3:10 reveals that God’s manifold wisdom is made known through the Church to principalities and powers.

The Church faces opposition, deception, false teachings, and attacks against its credibility. Therefore, we must pray for the protection, purity, unity, and spiritual strength of the Body of Christ.

Let us pray for our churches and fellowships in Basel, Delémont, Bern, Luzern, and wherever God has planted us.

4. THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON OF UNITY

Scripture Reading: Genesis 11:1–9

Genesis 11 describes the people who came together to build the Tower of Babel. In Genesis 11:6 (NKJV), God said:

“Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.”

Although their purpose was wrong, this account demonstrates the power of unity. When people work together, they can accomplish much.

As the Church, we must understand that unity strengthens our collective spiritual capacity. When believers stand together in prayer, love, and obedience to God, we become more effective in fulfilling our Kingdom assignment.

5. DISUNITY WEAKENS THE BODY OF CHRIST

Scriptures: Mark 3:24–25; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Ephesians 4:26–27

Jesus taught that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.

First Corinthians 12:26 reminds us that when one member suffers, the whole Body is affected. Our words, attitudes, and actions can strengthen the Church or weaken it.

Anger, bitterness, offence, gossip, and unresolved conflict can create division among believers. We must pursue forgiveness, reconciliation, humility, and love.

No individual is greater than the Body of Christ. We must not weaken one another from within while seeking to stand against the forces of darkness.

PRAYER POINTS

1. THANKSGIVING AND GIVING GLORY TO GOD FOR VICTORY

* Pray that our churches remain places of prayer, worship, and discipleship.

* Pray against pride, anger, bitterness, gossip, and strife.

* Ask God to heal wounds and restore relationships.

* Pray for discernment among leaders and members.

* Ask God to strengthen the unity of the Body of Christ.

4. EXPOSING SPIRITUAL DARKNESS IN OUR NATIONS
