Theme: Serving God with your Time, Tithes and Offering

Dear Church,

Welcome to the final part of our journey through the book of Revelation. Over the last two devotions, we have reflected on the beauty of the New Jerusalem, the River of Life, the Tree of Life, and the glorious future that awaits those who faithfully serve the Lord. We have also been reminded that Jesus is coming quickly and that we must continue walking in righteousness and holiness until the very end.

Today, as we conclude not only Revelation 22 but the entire Bible, we are given God’s final invitation, His final warning, and His final promise. As we continue our monthly theme of Serving God with Our Time, Tithes, and Offerings, may we remember that everything we do for Christ today has eternal significance.

Before you continue, pause for a moment, pray, and read Revelation 22:12–21, asking the Holy Spirit to prepare your heart.

Jesus continues by saying,

“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” (Revelation 22:12).

Church, this verse immediately caught my attention.

Jesus says, “My reward is with Me.”

Your reward is not with your pastor.

Your reward is not with your church members.

Your reward is not with your employer.

Your reward is with Jesus Christ Himself.

This is why we must be careful not to serve God for the applause of people. Sometimes people appreciate what you do, and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes your sacrifices are noticed, and sometimes they are completely overlooked. But never forget that God sees everything.

Every prayer you pray in secret.

Every hour you dedicate to His work.

Every act of kindness.

Every soul you win.

Every tithe you faithfully return.

Every offering you cheerfully give.

Every sacrifice you make for His Kingdom.

Jesus says, “My reward is with Me.”

Church, let us never serve God to impress people. Let us never give because we want recognition. Let us never work in ministry because we are looking for praise. We do everything unto the Lord because one day He Himself will reward each one according to his work.

Jesus then reminds us once again:

“I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” (Revelation 22:13).

History began with Him.

History will end with Him.

Everything is under His authority.

What a comfort to know that our lives are in the hands of the One who controls the beginning and the end.

Then Jesus says something beautiful:

“Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:14).

Notice again that blessing is connected with obedience.

Throughout this month we have spoken about serving God with our time, our tithes, and our offerings. But above all these things, God desires obedient hearts.

Jesus Himself said,

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15).

When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus answered:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37).

Then He added:

“You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39).

Church, loving God is more than attending church. It is more than singing songs. It is more than giving an offering. Loving God means giving Him our whole heart.

When we truly love Him, we will gladly obey Him.

When we truly love Him, we will honour Him with our time.

We will honour Him with our resources.

We will honour Him with our relationships.

We will honour Him with our entire lives.

John then gives another solemn warning.

“But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.” (Revelation 22:15).

Church, this verse made me pause.

Remember that Revelation 21 also listed many of these same sins. But here John begins by saying, “Outside are dogs.”

I believe this is referring to those who remain outside God’s Kingdom because they have rejected Him.

It reminds me of the conversation between Jesus and the Syrophoenician woman. Jesus said,

“It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” (Matthew 15:26).

The woman did not become offended. Instead, she humbled herself and replied,

“Yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

Because of her humility and faith, she received her miracle.

Church, there is a lesson here.

Today, some people become offended so easily. A pastor corrects them, and they leave the church. A fellow believer speaks the truth in love, and they walk away from the faith community. But this woman chose humility over offence, and God honoured her faith.

John continues by mentioning sorcerers, the sexually immoral, murderers, idolaters, and those who love and practise a lie.

Sorcery includes seeking supernatural power apart from God through witchcraft, divination, fortune-telling, and every form of occult practice. We should also be careful about spiritual practices that have roots in religions contrary to the gospel. Our meditation, our worship, and our dependence must always be centred on Christ alone.

Sexual immorality remains a serious warning throughout Scripture. Whether it is pornography, adultery, fornication, or any sexual practice outside God’s design, the Lord calls His people to holiness. Many people have struggled in these areas, but by the grace of God there is forgiveness, freedom, and victory for everyone who genuinely repents and walks with Christ.

Then John says something that deserves our careful attention:

”…whoever loves and practices a lie.”

Notice the wording.

He is not only talking about telling a lie.

He speaks about loving and practising lies as a lifestyle.

The devil is called “the father of lies.” (John 8:44).

Church, let us ask the Holy Spirit to deliver us from every form of dishonesty. Whether it is exaggeration, deception, false promises, or hidden dishonesty, may our lives reflect the truth of Christ.

Jesus then says,

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” (Revelation 22:16).

What wonderful titles!

Jesus is the fulfilment of every promise God made to David.

He is the Bright and Morning Star, bringing hope to everyone who trusts in Him.

Then comes one of the greatest invitations in all of Scripture.

“And the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.” (Revelation 22:17).

This reminded me of Jesus’ conversation with the Samaritan woman in John 4. He promised her living water that would satisfy her forever. After encountering Jesus, that woman became a witness to her whole town.

Church, that invitation is still open today.

If you are thirsty, come.

If you are weary, come.

If you need forgiveness, come.

If you desire eternal life, come.

The Water of Life is still freely available through Jesus Christ.

Isaiah also gives the same invitation:

“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters…” (Isaiah 55:1).

As we come to the closing verses of the Bible, we receive a serious warning.

God warns against adding to or taking away from the words of this prophecy. This reminds us to handle God’s Word with reverence. We are not at liberty to change His message to suit our preferences. His Word is complete, true, and trustworthy.

Finally, Jesus gives us His last recorded promise in Scripture:

“Surely I am coming quickly.”

Church, what should our response be?

Just as John responded:

“Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”

May that also become the cry of our hearts.

As we finish this wonderful journey through Revelation, I encourage you to prepare your heart daily for the Lord’s return. We often spend much of our lives pursuing earthly things—a passport, a promotion, financial security, or other important goals. While these things have their place, let us never neglect the greatest citizenship of all—the privilege of entering the New Jerusalem and living forever in the presence of God.

Let us pray that the Lord will prepare our hearts for that glorious day.

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for bringing us to the end of this wonderful book of Revelation. Thank You for revealing Your glorious plan and for reminding us that You are coming again. Prepare our hearts, O Lord. Give us the grace to remain faithful until the very end. Help us to honour You with our time, our tithes, our offerings, and our entire lives. Deliver us from every sin that would hinder us from entering Your Kingdom. Give us boldness to witness to those who are still far from You. May unbelievers come to know You, may those trapped in sin find freedom, and may many enter the New Jerusalem to enjoy the Tree of Life and serve You forever. Count us worthy of Your glorious appearing, and may we never lose sight of eternity. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
