📖Devotion – 1. Corinthians 10:1–33 (Part 1)

Introduction

Paul the Apostle issued a warning to the Church at Corinth in this chapter about certain issues that could negatively impact their devotion to the Almighty God—and by extension, he issued the same warning to us believers today.

This first part of the devotion will focus on verses 1–14, while the second part will focus on verses 15–33 tomorrow.

God’s Deliverance

Paul began by reminding the Church of the supernatural experiences their forefathers went through in their deliverance from Pharaoh’s cruel bondage.

The Israelites had been enslaved for 430 years—over ten generations of slavery! Think of it: their children could not attend the same schools as Egyptian children, they could not play on the same fields, and Hebrew men were forced into hard labor while their Egyptian masters enjoyed luxury. The frustration, pain, and humiliation seemed endless.

But when they cried out to God, He came to their rescue. In one night, He delivered over four million people:

“For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt, I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.” (Exodus 12:12)

Under the Cloud

Paul described this miracle in 1 Corinthians 10:1:

“Our forefathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea.”

God Himself was present in that cloud, leading them from bondage into freedom. No wonder Scripture says:

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)

This shows the heart of God: He desires His people to be free, never enslaved. Jesus declared:

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

A Call to Freedom

Are you in bondage today? Do you feel overwhelmed, burdened, or bitter?

Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart. He longs to come in, carry your burdens, and give you peace. Scripture promises:

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

A Prayer of Faith

Pray this prayer by faith:

“Lord Jesus, I confess You with my mouth as my Lord and Savior. I believe with all my heart that You died for my sins and rose again for my justification. Today, I release the burdens of my heart to You. Take them, Lord, and give me Your peace. Lead me in the way everlasting. I am Yours, Lord. Amen.”

Amen,
