DEVOTIONAL II — 1 Corinthians 6:1–20
⸻
Introduction
We now continue back to Paul’s letters. The fasting and prayers shake something in us — stirring our spirit to hear God more clearly and to walk closer with Him. Don’t stop praying. Keep believing. God is a faithful God.
⸻
Carnality vs. Spiritual Devotion
When we were unbelievers, we lived under the control of the flesh, carrying habits and desires that opposed God. Now that we are born again, the flesh still tries to act as before and even seeks to dominate us.
The flesh is unruly and full of sinful appetites. Some Christians live as carnal believers — ruled by their bodies instead of the Spirit. Paul wrote to the Corinthians:
“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 3:1
If we remain carnal, our witness becomes weak, and the eternal souls God wants us to reach remain untouched.
⸻
Signs of Spiritual Immaturity
Paul explained that carnality shows itself through:
• Resistance to sound teaching
• Envy, strife, and divisions
• A lack of lasting spiritual growth
“I have fed you with milk, and not with meat… For ye are yet carnal.” – 1 Corinthians 3:2–3
A believer who is bound by immaturity cannot fully engage in the urgent mission of saving souls.
⸻
The Call to True Devotion
A life of true devotion begins when:
1. Our spirit — in union with the Holy Spirit — rules over our soul and body.
2. We seek daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
3. We aim to glorify Christ in thought, word, and action — so our lives draw others to Him.
Paul reminds us:
“The body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:13
Our purity protects our witness — because how we live speaks louder than what we preach.
⸻
Purity as Worship and Witness
True devotion demands sexual purity.
• We must not live as before salvation.
• Sin contaminates worship, making it unacceptable to God.
• God’s standard remains the same for every generation.
“Flee fornication… Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost… For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – 1 Corinthians 6:18–20
When we live holy, we not only please God — we also shine as light, compelling never-dying souls to turn to Christ.
⸻
Daily Surrender for the Sake of Souls
Only the Holy Spirit can help us put to death the deeds of the flesh:
“If ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” – Romans 8:13
Daily surrender keeps us strong in the mission to win souls and keeps us from giving Satan any advantage.
⸻
Memory Verse
“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” – 1 Corinthians 9:27
⸻
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me and calling me to the mission of rescuing the never-dying soul. Fill me with the power of the Holy Spirit to live a pure and blameless life.
Help me to be an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and holiness so that others may be drawn to You.
Break every chain of carnality and give me the boldness to preach Christ with my words and my lifestyle.
Lord, use me as a vessel of honor to win souls for Your kingdom.
In Jesus’ name, Amen..
Amen,
