Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi
Theme: Sharing the Love of Christ to the Undying World — Church Without Walls

Devotion: 1 John 1:1–10 ⸻
Hello, church family!
Praise the Lord!
As we begin this new book — 1 John — we must understand that John is speaking from encounter, not theory.
⸻
Introduction — The Foundation of the Message (1 John 1:1–4)
1 John 1:1 (NKJV): “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes… and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life.”
John is saying:
We have seen Him. We have heard Him. We have touched Him.
This is not religion — this is reality.
1 John 1:3 (NLT): “We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us…”
Church, this is why we preach.
So that others may:
• Be delivered from eternal condemnation
• Be reconciled back to God
• Enter into fellowship through Christ
This is the foundation of church without walls.
What we have experienced — we proclaim.
⸻
1. God Is Light — And There Is No Darkness in Him (1 John 1:5–6)
1 John 1:5 (NKJV): “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
Church, this is the first call of the message — light.
From the beginning, the world was in darkness.
But now, light has appeared through Christ.
So what are we telling the world?
That those who sit in darkness
can now come into light.
That light brings:
• Freedom
• Clarity
• Life
But hear this clearly:
1 John 1:6 (NKJV): “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”
Church, if we claim to be in the light,
then darkness must not have access in our lives.
If the light in us is actually darkness,
then there is no truth in us.
⸻
2. Walk in the Light — And Carry the Light (1 John 1:7)
1 John 1:7 (NLT): “If we are living in the light, as God is in the light… the blood of Jesus… cleanses us from all sin.”
Church, walking in the light does not mean perfection —
it means openness, truth, and continual cleansing.
And this is the message we carry:
Light has come.
Freedom is available.
Cleansing is possible.
This is what the world needs to hear.
⸻
3. The Danger of Denying Sin (1 John 1:10)
1 John 1:10 (NKJV): “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
Church, this is very deep.
You cannot claim the light
and deny your need for it.
The same Gospel that brings light
also exposes darkness.
⸻
4. Church Without Walls Begins with This Truth
Church, hear this clearly:
There is no church without walls
without this message:
• That God is light
• That the world is in darkness
• That Christ brings freedom
• That His blood cleanses
And that what we have seen and experienced —
we must proclaim.
⸻
5. Reflect and Meditate — Genesis 1:1–39
As we meditate on light and creation, let’s also read Genesis 1:1–39.
Notice:
• God began with darkness and void
• Then He spoke light into existence
• He separated the light from the darkness
• He created order, life, and blessing
Church, let this deepen your reflection:
• Just as God brought light into the beginning,
• So does His light dwell in us
• So we, as His people, bring light into the world
Take a moment in your chair time to meditate on His creative power
and how He has entrusted light and life to you.
⸻
Final Charge
Church family,
• Walk in the light — don’t entertain darkness
• Be honest before God — that is where cleansing begins
• Carry the message of light to a dark world
• Proclaim what you have seen and experienced in Christ
Take time today to:
• Read 1 John 1:1–10
• Read Genesis 1:1–39
• Ask God to reveal any hidden darkness
• Receive His cleansing
• And share His light with someone
⸻
Prayer
Father, we thank You for Your Word.
Thank You that You are light and in You there is no darkness.
Help us to walk in truth and in the light.
Cleanse us and use us to shine Your light to the world.
In Jesus’ name, amen 🙏🏻
Shalom
