Daily Bible Plan - 1 Timothy

17. April 2026

Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi

Theme: Sharing the Love of Christ to the Undying World — Church Without Walls

Hello, Church.

We now step into the letters of Paul the Apostle addressed to Timothy, his spiritual son. This is a very powerful episode as we continue our journey, almost coming to the end of reading through the New Testament. So congratulations to you for staying committed—taking the Word verse by verse, slowly and intentionally, not rushing through but allowing it to shape your life.

Yesterday, we looked at 1 Timothy chapters 1 and 2, and today we focus on chapter 1. I want you to pay careful attention, because this portion is especially important for those who desire to become church workers, leaders, and ministry servants.

Our main theme remains clear:

👉 Sharing the love of Christ to a never-dying world.

This “church without walls” is not just a concept—it is a divine strategy, calling the Body of Christ to reach beyond buildings and traditions, so that the Lord may add daily those who must be saved (Acts 2:47).

But here is the balance we must hold:

👉 As we go out to reach the world, we must also guard what we carry.

👉 As we spread love, we must remain rooted in truth.

That is why our sub-theme is: Guarding the Gospel, Living in Grace.

It is also important to understand that Paul wrote these letters to Timothy to show him how things should be done in an orderly manner within the church. Timothy was a young leader, mentored and trusted, overseeing the church in Ephesus, carrying both responsibility and influence, and shaped by a strong spiritual heritage (2 Timothy 1:5).

So as we go through this chapter, don’t just read it as history—

👉 read it as a manual for ministry, leadership, and a church without walls.

Paul opens this letter not casually, but with authority and urgency. This is not just encouragement—it is a charge to protect the integrity of the faith while advancing the mission of Christ.

1. The Danger of False Doctrine (vv. 3–7)

Paul urges Timothy to command certain people not to teach false doctrines anymore. These were not outsiders—they were within the church.

They were obsessed with:

• Myths

• Endless genealogies

• Speculations instead of God’s truth

And here is the key issue:

👉 They were talking a lot, but saying nothing of eternal value.

Paul says something very strong:

They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about.

This is a warning for today.

There are voices in the church:

• Confident but not grounded

• Loud but not truthful

• Influential but not submitted to sound doctrine

Truth is not measured by confidence—it is measured by alignment with God’s Word.

2. The Purpose of Sound Teaching (v. 5)

Paul shifts from warning to purpose:

“The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.”

This is powerful.

Sound doctrine is not just about being right—it is about producing:

• Love

• Purity

• Integrity

• Authentic faith

If teaching does not lead people to love God and love others more deeply, something is off.

3. The Right Use of the Law (vv. 8–11)

Paul clarifies something important:

👉 The law is good—if used properly.

The law was not made for the righteous, but for the lawless—for those living in rebellion against God.

He lists various forms of sin—not to condemn, but to show:

• Humanity’s need for correction

• Humanity’s need for a Savior

And then he anchors everything in this phrase:

“…the glorious gospel of the blessed God…”

The law exposes sin.

The gospel transforms the sinner.

4. A Testimony of Grace (vv. 12–16)

Paul becomes personal.

He reminds Timothy—and us—of who he used to be:

• A blasphemer

• A persecutor

• A violent man

Yet he says:

“I was shown mercy.”

This is the heartbeat of the passage.

Paul’s life is proof that:

• No one is too far gone

• Grace is stronger than the past

• God can transform the worst into a vessel of purpose

He calls himself the chief of sinners, yet chosen to display Christ’s patience.

Your past does not disqualify you—

👉 It can become the platform for God’s glory.

5. The King Eternal (v. 17)

Paul erupts into worship:

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

When you truly understand grace,

👉 You don’t just explain it—you worship.

Doctrine should lead to doxology.

Revelation should lead to reverence.

6. The Charge to Fight the Good Fight (vv. 18–20)

Paul returns to the central theme:

“Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command… so that you may fight the good fight.”

This Christian life is not passive.

It is a fight:

• To preserve truth

• To live with integrity

• To remain faithful in a compromising world

And Timothy is reminded:

👉 You don’t fight blindly—you fight with prophecy, calling, and conviction.

Now listen carefully, Church:

“…holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.”

Paul makes it very clear—whenever people, especially leaders, begin to mess up with their faith and undermine the power of a good conscience, they begin to drift from the truth.

The Bible says in Romans 10:17:

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

So if what you are hearing is corrupted, your faith will be corrupted.

And in 1 Timothy 4:2, Scripture warns about people:

“whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.”

So a conscience can become damaged to the point where it no longer responds to truth.

Now when both faith and conscience are compromised, what follows is what Paul calls a shipwreck of faith.

Think about a shipwreck.

When Paul the Apostle warned those on the ship in Acts 27, they ignored his instruction—and the result was destruction.

In the same way, when we ignore godly instruction, correction, and truth, we begin to drift.

The Bible says in Hebrews 2:1:

“We must pay the most careful attention… so that we do not drift away.”

Drifting is the beginning of shipwreck.

And what happens when faith is shipwrecked?

👉 You no longer believe what you once believed

👉 You begin to question God

👉 You begin to question the very church that once nurtured you

The same place God used to deliver you becomes the place you now doubt.

That is how the enemy works.

The Bible says in John 8:44 that the devil is the father of lies. He plants doubt until truth begins to look like error.

Some even get to a place where they say:

👉 “The Holy Spirit told me…”

when the Holy Spirit never spoke.

But the Bible warns us in 1 John 4:1:

“Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits…”

Because not every voice comes from God.

When a good conscience is compromised:

• Discernment is lost

• Conviction is weakened

• Truth becomes distorted

That is why you must be careful:

• What you are listening to

• Who you are surrounding yourself with

Paul gives real examples:

• Hymenaeus

• Alexander

These departed from the truth and began influencing others, creating confusion within the church.

Paul says he handed them over to Satan—meaning they were removed from spiritual covering so they could learn through correction.

And this is serious.

Because one of the main things the enemy targets—especially in leaders—is:

👉 your faith

👉 your good conscience

Even Simon Peter was warned by Jesus:

“Satan has asked to sift you like wheat…” (Luke 22:31–32)

“…but I have prayed for you that your faith will not fail.”

Because once faith and conscience are compromised,

👉 shipwreck becomes inevitable.

And when there is shipwreck, it means the enemy has gained control in that area.

So Church, be careful.

Hold on to your faith.

Guard your conscience.

Stay rooted in truth.

Today we declare:

👉 This will not be your portion.

Closing Charge

Church, we are not called to choose between truth and love.

We are called to carry both.

As we go out to reach a never-dying world, let us be a people who:

• Guard the gospel with conviction

• Live in grace with humility

• Share the love of Christ without walls

• Hold on to faith and a good conscience

Prayer

Lord, help me to stand firm in Your truth. Guard my heart and protect my conscience. Let my faith remain strong and anchored in You. Deliver me from every deception of the enemy. Help me to walk in truth, live in grace, and never depart from Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray for us!

Shalom

Rev Joseph

Wow, 1 Timothy 1 was truly a blessing. 🙌

No one is too far from God’s grace. A pastor once said, “People define you by your past, but God defines you by your purpose.”

Paul persecuted God, yet it was God’s grace that brought him back. So often, we wait until we’ve solved our own problems before turning to God, even though He is the one who transforms us in the first place.

Thank you, Pastor, and the Comm Team—God bless you. 🙏

Wow, thank you for the devotion, Rev. Joseph and the communications team 🙏🏿

In this chapter, I learned how faith, conscience, and truth are deeply connected.

When the truth is distorted, both our faith and our conscience are directly affected—and the same works the other way around.

That’s why the devotion says we should hold on to what we have. This means standing firm in our faith, guarding our conscience, and remaining rooted in the truth.

At the same time, truth is especially vulnerable today because there are so many voices speaking into our lives (as mentioned in the previous devotion).

We may not be able to avoid all the voices in society and in this generation, but we can…

The book of first Timothy, chapter 1, is powerful! Thank you, Pastor, for sharing these deep revelations!🔥

What really spoke to me today is guarding my conscience. It reminds me of Paul's defence to the Sanhedrin in Acts 23:1, in which he says he has lived in all good conscience before God, after recounting moments when he persecuted Christians and stood by and approved of Stephen's murder in previous verses (Acts 22:4; 19-20).

The devotion has taught me that my conscience is my awareness of whether what I am doing is right or wrong. It is my inner moral compass. Yet, it can be deceptive if it is not fed properly.

Therefore, I can only walk and live in Truth,…

Wow, 1 Timothy 1 is full of depth. But what really stayed with me is what is also mentioned in the book of Jude: to keep the faith.

It reminds me again that false teachings will come, and that wolves and goats may appear among us. But to stand firm against all of this, we must hold on to our faith, guard it, and protect it.

Faith is not just saying, “Yes, I believe.” Faith must be trained and lived out daily.

Hebrews 11:1:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

We can only fight the good fight if our faith does not waver, is not corrupted, and does not compromise. Because…
