It Starts in Your Room
Devotion by Pastor Joseph Antwi
Theme: From Upper Room to Every Room
Read: Romans Chapter 10:1-11
Introduction:
I am so happy to be back again with our daily devotions. Are you?
During our recent workers & leadership brunch in FCC, someone asked a simple but profound question:
“Pastor, when did you get born again?”
That question brought me to a place of deep reflection. I gave my life to Christ when I was between 14 and 16 years old. It was a genuine decision, and I knew Jesus had called me. But it wasn’t until my early 20s that I experienced my real turning point. That’s when the Gospel truly began to transform me from the inside out.
That season marked a deep awakening in me. I became burdened with the things of God—with His presence, His mission, and His people. I couldn’t go back to a casual walk with Christ. My room became my altar, the place where God broke, shaped, and filled me. I fell in love with Jesus, not just as my Savior, but as my Lord. And once you fall in love with Jesus like that, you’ll never be the same.

Romans 10:1–11 — The Gospel That Transforms
In Romans 10:1, Paul shares something deeply personal:
“Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.”
Paul wasn’t writing as a distant theologian. He was writing as someone whose life had been radically changed by Christ. His heart burned for others to experience what he had encountered.
He continues by saying that although his people had zeal for God, it wasn’t rooted in truth (v.2). They were pursuing righteousness through their own efforts rather than through faith in Jesus (v.3–4). This mirrors so many in our world today—religious, sincere, but unchanged.
But Paul reminds us in verse 4: “Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.” It’s not about trying harder—it’s about surrendering completely.
⸻
Let the Gospel Work in You First
Verses 5–11 explain the simplicity and power of salvation: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (v.9)
“Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” (v.11)
“You cannot carry the Gospel into every room if you haven’t allowed it to transform you in your own room.” - Pastor Joseph Antwi
This is what happened in my life. I knew Jesus, but I didn’t begin to walk in His fullness until I let the Gospel shape me privately. Before we can carry His Word to others, we must allow that Word to do a deep work in us—correcting us, healing us, filling us, and empowering us.
The disciples didn’t leave the Upper Room until they were filled with the Holy Spirit. And we, too, must let God fill our room—our personal space, our inner life—before we attempt to bring Him into someone else’s.
⸻
Reflection Questions:
• Have you truly allowed the Gospel to transform you in your own “room”?
• Are you still trying to earn what Jesus already accomplished?
• Are you ready to carry the message not just from your lips, but from your life?
⸻
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for saving me early, and thank You for transforming me deeply. Let Your Gospel do a complete work in my heart. I surrender every room of my life to You. Fill me in private so I can be faithful in public. Let me be a vessel—from the Upper Room to every room You send me into. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Loads of love,
Pastor Joseph Antwi
