Devotion by Pastor Joseph Antwi

Theme: From Upper Room to Every Room

Read: Romans 11:1–6 & 1 Kings 19:9–18

Introduction:

I am so excited to walk with you through Paul’s letters, combining them with the theme the Lord laid on my heart:

“From Upper Room to Every Room.”

Before we dive into this devotion, I encourage you to pause and read Romans 11:1–6 and 1 Kings 19:9–18 slowly. Don’t rush. Meditate on each verse and listen closely — hear what God is saying to you personally.

You're Not Alone — God Has a Remnant

Sometimes we feel like Elijah — standing alone, exhausted, and asking God, “What’s the point?” In 1 Kings 19, Elijah had just faced down false prophets, but he still fled in fear. He thought he was the only one left who cared about God's truth.

But God revealed something powerful:

“I have reserved seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed to Baal…” — 1 Kings 19:18

In Romans 11, Paul echoes this moment to remind the believers that God always has a remnant — a faithful people chosen by grace, not by works.

“So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.” — Romans 11:5

You might feel like the only one in your workplace, school, or home who follows Jesus — but you’re not alone. God is still raising up voices. He’s still sending people. And you are part of His plan.

Go With Grace, Not Burnout

Elijah’s burnout came from fighting alone, carrying a burden that was never meant to be his alone. Maybe you’re feeling that way too. If so, it’s time to step back into the Upper Room — not just to receive power, but to receive perspective.

You’re not sent alone. You’re sent with the Holy Spirit and surrounded by others God has positioned.

Quiet Places, Bold Moves

In 1 Kings 19, Elijah didn’t hear God in the wind, earthquake, or fire — but in a gentle whisper. Sometimes, to move into “every room,” we first need to quiet the noise in our own.

Don’t underestimate those still moments. That whisper can ignite a bold move — the call to disciple, the courage to speak up, the nudge to pray for someone at work.

The Power of the Remnant

God is not looking for a crowd. He’s looking for the faithful. That’s the beauty of a remnant — small in number, strong in impact.

“If by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.” — Romans 11:6

You were saved by grace, and you’re sent by grace. No title required. No spotlight needed. Just a willing heart.

Reflection Questions:

  • Do you ever feel like you’re standing alone in your faith?

  • What room is God asking you to enter — even if it seems small or quiet?

  • Have you paused recently to hear God’s whisper?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for calling me by grace and reminding me that I am not alone. Thank You for the remnant You are raising up across the world.

Help me hear Your whisper and obey — whether it’s to go, speak, pray, or simply be present in the room You’ve placed me in.

Give me the boldness of Elijah, but also the humility to rest and trust in Your voice. Let me be faithful in every room, knowing You go with me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

With love,
