Victory Over the Struggle Within
Devotion by Pastor Joseph Antwi
Read: Romans Chapter 7
Introduction:
In Romans 7, the Apostle Paul gives us a transparent look into the internal battle every believer faces—the war between the flesh and the spirit. He begins by explaining how, just as a woman is no longer bound to her husband once he dies, we too are no longer bound to the law because we have died with Christ and now belong to Him (Romans 7:4). This is a powerful truth: we are not slaves to the law; we are joined to Christ to bear fruit for God.
But Paul doesn’t end there. From verses 14 to 25, he vividly describes the inner turmoil: “For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing” (Romans 7:19). This struggle resonates with many of us. Even as believers, we sometimes feel powerless in the face of temptation. We want to do good, yet we find ourselves falling short. We hate sin, yet we stumble.
Reflection by Pastor Joseph:
Let’s be real—some of us reading this have done things we didn’t plan to do. Maybe you didn’t pay for a bus ticket and found yourself praying God would keep the controller far from you. Maybe it’s something deeper—something you’re too ashamed to talk about. There are struggles we carry, and some of them keep showing up again and again. Maybe it’s porn, gossip, anger, unforgiveness. You hate it, yet you keep going back.
Take this from me, not just as your pastor, but as your friend: you are not alone. You’re not the only one fighting this battle. And more importantly—you’re not without hope.
Here’s the good news: if we die to the deeds of the flesh through true repentance and baptism, we rise into a new life in Christ. It’s not about trying harder—it’s about surrendering deeper. You don’t have to carry this on your own. There is grace for you. There is power in the Spirit to overcome.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You that I don’t have to hide in shame or try to fix myself without You. Today, I lay my struggle at Your feet. Teach me to surrender. Help me to live by the Spirit, not the flesh. Thank You for the grace that lifts me, the power that sustains me, and the cross that has already won the victory. Amen.
NOW DO THIS:
Take a few moments to reflect.
Record a short video with your Bible open, sharing what God spoke to you from this chapter.
(Send your video to the media team for compilation.)
Share your thoughts on the group chat and with as many friends as possible. Let the Word spread!
Loads of love,
