Introduction

From the above texts (Mk 9:1–52; 1 Cor 4:20), it is explicitly clear that the Kingdom of God which Jesus always preached about, proclaimed, and demonstrated is a kingdom of power. This kingdom changes people’s lives indisputably. Everywhere Jesus went, He took the message of the Kingdom there, and He demonstrated the goodness and power of that Kingdom — forgiving sinners, healing the sick, cleansing lepers, giving sight to the blind, restoring hope to the hopeless, feeding the hungry, and raising the dead.

Verses 1–13 – The Kingdom of Power and the Transfiguration

Paul the Apostle picked this up in 1 Corinthians 4:20:

“For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.”

It is not a kingdom that operates on mere words or human eloquence, but in the demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit. Peter gave his own account in Acts 10:38:

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.”

That is a practical demonstration of the power of the Kingdom of God. In Mark 9, Jesus declared in plain terms that some who were with Him would not taste death until they had seen the Kingdom of God come with power.

Six days later, He took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain and demonstrated that power through His transfiguration.

They saw the realm of the Spirit — Moses and Elijah speaking with Jesus — and heard the voice of the Father from the cloud:

“This is My beloved Son: hear Him.” From that point, these apostles could never forget the firsthand experience of Kingdom power and glory. Peter later testified in 2 Peter 1:16–18 that they were eyewitnesses of His majesty when the voice came from heaven on the holy mount.

Verses 9–13 – The Mystery of Death and Resurrection

In Mark 9:9, Jesus spoke about His death and resurrection, which the apostles did not understand. He was going to demonstrate resurrection power through His own death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. His ministry moved gradually and increased in power. As one follows His miracles, the growth of divine power becomes evident.Yet, the apostles could not comprehend His death and resurrection (Mk 9:9–13).

Verses 14–29 – Faith and Access to Kingdom Power

As Jesus came down from the mountain with Peter, James, and John, He met a situation where a boy was tormented by a devil.

His disciples could not cast it out.

Jesus expressed His disappointment, calling them a “faithless generation” (Mk 9:19).

He established the connection between faith and access to Kingdom power.

Faith is the key that unlocks God’s power to change lives and situations.

Summary Reflection

1. The Kingdom of God operates in power, not in words. 2. Faith is the key to accessing that power. 3. Jesus revealed the reality of Kingdom power through the transfiguration and resurrection.

Personal Reflection Questions 🔥 1. Do I truly believe that the Kingdom of God operates in power and not just in words? 2. In which areas of my life do I need to exercise faith to access God’s power? 3. How has my personal “mountain experience” with God strengthened my faith? 4. What does the transfiguration of Jesus reveal to me about His glory and authority?

Closing Prayer 🙏 Father, thank You for revealing to us that Your Kingdom is one of power.

Open our eyes to see Your glory as the disciples saw on the mountain.

Teach us to walk by faith and not by sight, and help us to access Your divine power to change our circumstances and those of others.

May Your Kingdom power be manifested in our lives daily, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
