🌿 Introduction

Church, after fifteen days of prayer, fasting, sacrifice, worship, and seeking the face of God, it is only right that we pause and intentionally give thanks to the Lord.

Let me ask a simple question. How do we feel when we do something good for a friend, a loved one, a family member, or even someone we barely know, and they never show appreciation? How do we feel when our sacrifices are ignored? How do we feel when our efforts are overlooked?

The truth is that many times we say we are serving God and not people, yet we can still become hurt when our efforts are not acknowledged. That is because gratitude matters.

Over the years, I have seen people come into Fortified City Church and express deep gratitude. They testified that God led them here. They spoke about how much the ministry had blessed them and how God had used the church to transform their lives. Yet sometimes, when storms came, challenges arose, or expectations were not met, the same people who once celebrated became offended.

Such is the nature of human love when it is based only on circumstances. Human gratitude can be temporary and conditional.

However, true gratitude is revealed when we remain faithful in both good seasons and difficult seasons. Genuine thanksgiving is not dependent on what God has done recently; it is rooted in who God is.

This is one reason many marriages struggle today. Couples often forget the sacrifices, kindness, patience, and love that once brought them together. When remembrance disappears, gratitude disappears. When gratitude disappears, honor disappears. And when honor disappears, relationships begin to weaken.

The same can happen in our walk with God.

Today, let us not grieve the Holy Spirit by forgetting His goodness. Let us not rush into the next season without stopping to acknowledge the One who carried us through this season.

The Psalmist reminds us:

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”

— Psalm 103:2 (NKJV)

Church, take a moment and remember:

* Remember the prayers God answered.

* Remember the dangers He protected you from.

* Remember the strength He gave you during difficult moments.

* Remember the healing He brought.

* Remember the provision He supplied.

* Remember the peace He gave when you thought you would not make it.

Today, we worship God not merely because of what He gives us, but because of who He is.

The Bible tells us that the elders in heaven cast down their crowns before the Lord.

“The twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne… and cast their crowns before the throne.”

— Revelation 4:10 (NKJV)

Their crowns represented their achievements, status, rewards, and accomplishments. Yet in God’s presence, those things were not as important as worship.

In the same way, let us lay down our titles, successes, achievements, disappointments, expectations, and even unanswered prayers before Him and simply worship.

Take time today to thank Jesus for leading you to Fortified City Church. Thank Him for the shepherds He has used to impact your life. Thank Him for the leaders, ministers, elders, workers, and members who have contributed to your spiritual growth.

Thank Him for answering prayers you have already seen and for those answers that are still on the way.

Thank Him for allowing you to walk under open heavens.

Thank Him because He has been faithful.
