DAY 10 – Fasting & Prayer

14. January 2026

Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi

Theme: Living in Anticipation of Christ’s Return (Urgent Harvest)

Anchor Scriptures: Matthew 24:14 | 2 Peter 3:9 | Revelation 22:12 (NKJV)

Introduction

Yesterday, we were deeply blessed by the ministry of Elder Daniel Chachu of ZCC, who taught powerfully on living in anticipation of Christ’s return. He highlighted four vital truths every believer must continually keep before them: the promise, the signs, the errors, and the charge.

As believers, we are people of purpose. We write exams, pursue careers, trust God for provision, build families, and set spiritual and personal goals for the year. These are necessary, responsible, and God-honoring pursuits. However, while engaging in legitimate visions and daily responsibilities, we must never lose sight of eternity.

The sobering question remains:

If Jesus returns in the middle of our plans, our work, or our pursuits — will we be ready?

Jesus Himself warned us:

📖 “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

— Matthew 24:44 (NKJV)

This makes it clear that anticipation of Christ’s return is not an occasional thought — it is a daily lifestyle. Whether we are at work, serving in church, building our marriages, attending school, or engaging in private conversations, we must live with the awareness that Christ could return at any moment, even when we least expect Him.

Living in anticipation shapes how we speak, how we treat others, and how we respond to temptation. It calls us to kindness, holiness, integrity, and spiritual alertness.

Scripture speaks clearly about eternal realities:

📖 “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

— Revelation 21:8 (NKJV)

This raises an important question many ask:

Would a good God destroy His people?

The answer is found in Scripture — God’s mission has never been destruction.

📖 “Then He will say… ‘Depart from Me… into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’”

— Matthew 25:41 (NKJV)

Hell was prepared for the devil and his angels — not for believers. However, Scripture also teaches that persistent unbelief, rejection of truth, and unrepentant sin separate people from God’s saving grace.

This brings us to a vital balance:

Grace does not excuse sin — grace empowers transformation.

📖 “Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not!”

— Romans 6:1–2 (NKJV)

Therefore, we must examine ourselves honestly — not in condemnation, but in truth.

If a believer lives casually in sexual immorality, dishonesty, or rebellion without repentance, are they truly ready for Christ’s return?

📖 “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith.”

— 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV)

May the world not cloud our minds.

May culture not dull our spiritual sensitivity.

May we live daily with eternity in view and the Word of God as our compass.

The Urgency of the Harvest

📖 “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”

— Matthew 24:14 (NKJV)

The delay of Christ’s return is not weakness — it is mercy.

📖 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise… but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

— 2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)

Every day the Church remains on earth is an opportunity for salvation. This is why urgency must grip our hearts — not fear, but mission-driven urgency.

📖 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.”

— Revelation 22:12 (NKJV)

We are not waiting idly.

We are harvesting faithfully.
