DAY 17 – Fasting & Prayer

21. January 2026

Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi

Theme: Staying Committed and Consistent (Nations Stabilised)

Key Scriptures: Hebrews 10:23 | Galatians 6:9 | 1 Corinthians 15:58

DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION

Consistency is the hallmark of a mature Church. Staying committed in prayer, service, and faithfulness ensures that the Church becomes a stabilising influence in nations. When believers persevere, they build spiritual maturity, produce hope in their communities, and guarantee that God’s purposes will be fulfilled.

📖 “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” — Romans 5:3–5 (NKJV)

📖 “Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” — James 1:3 (NKJV)

The enemy seeks to derail believers through distraction, weariness, or discouragement. Yet Scripture reminds us:

📖 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” — Hebrews 10:23 (NKJV)

We are called to finish well, not just begin well. Perseverance is the bridge between vision and fulfillment. When the Church stays faithful, nations are impacted. God’s promises do not fail; His purposes do not return void.

📖 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” — Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)

📖 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” — 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NKJV)

Commitment is a foundational principle that underpins every institution, marriage, home, and workplace. Not only must we begin well, but we must also remain faithful and consistent in what we do. Believers are called to a life of faithfulness and devotion in every area of life.

📖 “Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 4:2 (NKJV)

Faithfulness reflects the depth and intent of our hearts toward God and His Word. It is not just about knowledge, feelings, or enthusiasm; it is about aligning our passion, purpose, and actions with God’s will.

Just as in the military, loyalty and faithfulness among team members are essential to execute strategies successfully, spiritual life requires commitment and consistency to fulfill God’s purposes. History gives us a clear example: Julius Caesar, one of the greatest warriors of all time, achieved many victories due to skill and loyal followers. Yet betrayal by his own men led to his demise. Similarly, inconsistency or unfaithfulness in our spiritual lives can cause missed opportunities, setbacks, and even spiritual compromise.

Faithfulness is also crucial in marriage and relationships. When a spouse is inconsistent or unfaithful in love, duty, or covenant, the foundation of that relationship weakens, often leading to strife or separation. God’s Word reassures us:

📖 “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” — 2 Timothy 2:13 (NKJV)

Faithfulness aligns with righteousness. God is just and never forgets the labor of those who serve Him faithfully. He rewards diligence and perseverance.

Commitment in discipleship goes beyond belief. As I preached on Sunday:

📖 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

True commitment means Christ rules our hearts, decisions, and actions. Whatever we are committed to governs our lives. Commitment to God, His Word, prayer, church attendance, and spiritual vision shapes our path and empowers our destiny.

Reflect honestly: In which areas of your life do you lack commitment? Is it in prayer, reading Scripture, serving in the church, or obeying God’s call?

One area many believers—including myself — is unable to keep rhythm like Daniel did 3 times in a day — is consistency in prayer. We see other faiths, such as Islam, demonstrate remarkable devotion through daily prayers and fasting. Even though we know Christ have revealed the true God who deserves our remarkable devotion. While we may not agree with their methods or approve their religion consistency produces certain character for intimacy with their object of worship .

As Christians, we have received the highest truth from the Most High God. Yet, we often struggle with consistency, allowing distractions—social media, idle conversations, or worldly entertainment—to hinder our spiritual growth.

God is calling us to fervent commitment and steadfast consistency:

• Commitment to prayer

• Commitment to the Word of God

• Commitment to church and ministry

• Commitment to the vision and assignment God has given
