INTRODUCTION
Good morning, church, and Shalom!
A QUICK REMINDER: If you have not yet read yesterday’s devotion, please do so before continuing. Each devotion builds on the previous one, and reading them in sequence will help us understand the message more fully.
TODAY’S DEVOTION: FROM CALLING TO SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT
Today, we fast and pray for God’s presence, direction and empowerment for our lives, families and church. Fasting expresses our humility as we seek His will and strength.
“So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer.” — Ezra 8:23, NKJV.
God called Gideon to deliver Israel from the Midianites, even though he felt inadequate. He reduced Gideon’s army to 300 men so Israel would know that victory came from Him, not human strength (Judges 6–7). God does not need large numbers to accomplish great things; He seeks people who trust and obey Him.
Samson was also called from birth to deliver Israel from the Philistines (Judges 13). Although God gave him extraordinary strength, his lack of discipline, independence and disregard for instruction led to trouble (Judges 14–16). Delilah’s persistent pressure caused him to reveal the secret of his consecration, resulting in his capture and suffering (Judges 16:15–21). Yet, in his final moments, he cried out to God for strength (Judges 16:28).
These accounts show that divine calling requires obedience, discipline, humility and dependence on the Holy Spirit. Gifts alone are not enough. We must guard our spiritual lives, resist destructive influences, receive godly instruction and remain faithful to God’s assignments and structures.
As we seek God today, let us trust Him for victory even when our numbers seem small. Let us ask Him to make FCC and the Basel District not merely active, but spiritually strong, Holy Spirit-filled and equipped to advance His Kingdom.
SCRIPTURE FOR MEDITATION
“The people are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’” — Judges 7:2, NKJV.
Read also Judges 7:7, where God promises to deliver Israel through the 300 men.
FROM MEDITATION TO PRAYER
The stories of Gideon and Samson remind us that God’s work must be done in His strength and according to His instructions. As we fast and pray, let us seek victory, character, discipline and the spiritual empowerment needed to fulfil our calling.
