Theme: The God Who Begins Well and Builds With Order

Devotion: Genesis 1:1–31
⸻
Introduction
Family, today we return to the beginning. The foundation of everything we believe starts here. If the foundation is wrong, everything built upon it becomes unstable. But if the foundation is clear, faith becomes strong.
📖 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).
The Bible does not begin with an argument. It begins with God. Before there was light, before there was form, before there was man — there was God.
Genesis 1 teaches us who God is, how He works, and what happens when He speaks.
Yesterday at discipleship, I went deep into the Word of God — the Scriptures. We saw that the foundation of God’s Word is what God spoke into being. Everything begins with “God said.” Our faith is not built on opinions but on what God has spoken.
⸻
1. God Is the Initiator
📖 “In the beginning God created…” (Genesis 1:1).
God did not react to creation — He initiated it. He did not improve something existing — He created from nothing. He is Alpha, the Beginning.
This means your life did not begin with your circumstances. It began with God’s intention. Before your family knew you, before your career started, before ministry began — God already existed with purpose in mind.
When God begins something, He finishes it.
⸻
2. The Spirit Moves Before Things Make Sense
📖 “The earth was without form, and void… and the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:2).
Notice something powerful: even in chaos, the Spirit was present.
Formless. Empty. Dark. Yet the Spirit was hovering.
Some of you may look at areas of your life and see disorder. But never conclude that God is absent just because things are not structured yet. The Spirit moves before clarity appears.
Before light comes, the Spirit hovers.
⸻
3. Creation and the Question of the Big Bang
Some argue that the universe began through the Big Bang theory — that everything came from a cosmic explosion billions of years ago. Scripture, however, declares intentional creation.
📖 “Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:3).
The biblical account shows order, sequence, intelligence, and purpose. Light appears before the sun and stars are appointed to govern it. Life is created according to its kind. Humanity is formed with intention and identity.
The idea that everything came from nothing without cause contradicts Scripture and basic reasoning. Even science teaches that every effect has a cause. Genesis reveals that the ultimate Cause is God.
Now understand this carefully: science is not the enemy of faith. True science studies what God has made. Science explains processes. Scripture explains origin and purpose.
Science may describe how light travels, how cells multiply, or how galaxies expand. But Genesis tells us why they exist and who spoke them into being.
📖 “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made” (Psalm 33:6).
Creation is not an accident. It is authored.
When we remove God from the beginning, meaning disappears. When we keep God at the center, everything aligns.
⸻
4. God Builds by His Word — And His Word Lives in Us
Creation did not happen through struggle. It happened through speech.
Over and over in Genesis 1 we read, “And God said…”
This is not repetition without meaning. It is revelation. The foundation of reality is the spoken Word of God.
God said, “Let there be light,” and light appeared. Then later, He created us in His image (Genesis 1:26). If we are created in His image, and creation responded to His Word, then there is something powerful about the Word placed within us.
The Word of God is not only written in Scripture — it is alive in us through His Spirit.
📖 “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).
This does not mean we create worlds by our own power. But it does mean that Spirit-led words carry authority.
So yes, there are moments when we must declare, “Let there be light” — not from pride, but from faith. When darkness tries to settle in your home, your mind, your ministry, or your future, you align your words with what God has already spoken.
Words are important for the believer — especially when they come from the Spirit.
Careless words create confusion. Spirit-filled words create alignment.
Darkness did not argue with light. It disappeared when God spoke.
And when believers speak in agreement with God’s Word, atmospheres shift.

5. God Works With Order and Separation
Throughout the chapter, God separates light from darkness, waters above from waters below, land from sea.
God is a God of order.
📖 “God is not the author of confusion but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33).
Where the Spirit works, clarity follows. Boundaries are established. Chaos is organized.
Sometimes growth requires separation — separating distractions from purpose, separating flesh from Spirit, separating noise from calling.
Order invites fruitfulness.
⸻
6. You Were Created With Dignity and Dominion
📖 “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness’” (Genesis 1:26).
You were not created randomly. You carry God’s image. That means dignity. That means authority. That means responsibility.
The enemy attacks identity because identity determines dominion.
When you understand you are made in God’s image, you stop living beneath your design.
⸻
7. Fruitfulness Is the Evidence of Blessing
📖 “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply’” (Genesis 1:28).
Blessing was spoken before performance. God blessed them and then commanded fruitfulness.
Fruitfulness is not only about numbers. It is about impact. It is about producing what heaven intended.
When God blesses a person, a family, or a church, multiplication becomes natural.
⸻
8. God Finishes What He Starts
📖 “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
God did not stop halfway. He completed His work and evaluated it.
If God begins something in your life, He intends to complete it. What may look unfinished today is still in process.
He is a God of intentional beginnings and excellent endings.

📖 Chair Time
Open Your Bible
Genesis 1:1–31
Read
Slowly read the entire chapter. Pay attention to how many times you see “And God said.”
Reflect
Are my words aligned with God’s Word?
Am I speaking light or reinforcing darkness?
Do I live with the awareness that I carry His image and His Spirit?
Pray
Father, thank You for speaking light into existence. Teach me to honor the power of words. Let my speech align with Your Spirit. Where there is darkness, help me declare Your truth. Let Your Word live actively inside of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏾🔥
Shalom
