INTRODUCTION

Hello, brothers and sisters!

I am again very excited to resume our devotion. I believe we have journeyed together from Daniel chapter 1 to Daniel chapter 5, and today I am very happy to bring you Daniel chapter 6.

Before going into the devotion, kindly say a short word of prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you insight, understanding, and revelation as you read His Word.

Then read Daniel 6:1–28.

Please slow down with your reading. Don’t rush it. Underline what speaks to you before continuing with this devotion. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you first, and then come back to see what insight I have received from this chapter.

Remember, this is a journey of growth. If you are looking for discipleship, this devotion is discipleship. If you are looking to know the Word of God, to be encouraged, strengthened, and kept in the faith, this devotion is for you.

And don’t forget to say a word of prayer for me too.

Now, let’s enter into the devotion.

1. An Excellent Spirit Can Distinguish You

Daniel 6 begins with Darius organizing the kingdom. He appointed 120 satraps over the whole kingdom, with three governors over them, of whom Daniel was one, so that the king would suffer no loss.

There were many leaders in the kingdom, but Daniel distinguished himself. The Bible says:

“Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him.”

— Daniel 6:3

Church, let’s pray for this:

Lord, release an excellent spirit in us.

And do you know that you have access to the Excellent Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. When the Holy Spirit is working in us, He equips us to translate what God has deposited in us into reality.

I told my young people before: when the Spirit of excellence is working in you, whether you are on the welcome team, doing media, operating the sound, uploading devotions, cleaning, organizing, leading, preaching, or serving behind the scenes, whatever you do, do it with excellence.

And this is important: our fire in the presence of God is precious. When we shout, pray, worship, speak in tongues, and passionately seek God, we are expressing spiritual fire. 🔥 We should never become ashamed of that fire.

But as we carry that fire, it should begin to form something around us. It should produce excellence, diligence, responsibility, integrity, and faithfulness in our everyday lives.

The fire must translate.

2. Let the Fire Follow You Into Your Workplace

Daniel’s excellence was not limited to his spiritual life. It became visible in his administration, leadership, wisdom, integrity, and execution. The king was considering setting Daniel over the whole realm.

Think about that. Daniel was not campaigning for the position. His life and work were speaking for him.

I pray that somebody will think about you because of the excellent spirit they can see in you. May somebody recommend you because of your integrity, remember you because of your faithfulness, and say, “There is something different about this person.”

Every time I see some of the workers in the Church, I see this spirit of excellence working in them. Everything they do comes with excellence. It is not necessarily because they are the most eloquent or super organized; the Spirit of the Lord working in them has equipped them.

And as your pastor, I say this to the glory of God, not to boast: I have had countless moments where I have been appreciated and applauded because of something that was found in the way I executed a task. But I know that this is purely grace.

And that grace should come out.

What God puts inside you should eventually become visible through you.

If you work in an office, let the fire form excellence in your work. If you are a nurse, teacher, engineer, entrepreneur, administrator, business owner, or professional in any field, let the fire form something around you.

Your punctuality can reflect it. Your integrity can reflect it. Your attitude, diligence, honesty, and ability to solve problems can reflect it.

You don’t always have to preach a sermon for people to know that something is different about you.

Sometimes your life will preach before your mouth does.

3. Excellence Can Attract Envy

But Daniel’s excellence did not make everybody happy.

The Bible says:

“So the governors and satraps sought to find some charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom.”

— Daniel 6:4

Why?

Because Daniel was being distinguished.

Church, don’t be fooled into thinking that the closer you get to God, the more everybody will like you. Sometimes the more you grow, the more your growth exposes the insecurity of others. Your promotion can provoke envy, and your integrity can irritate people who benefit from compromise.

The more you climb the ladder of faith, the more you may encounter people who want to pull you down.

But don’t reduce your excellence because somebody is uncomfortable with what God is doing through you.

Keep serving. Keep praying. Keep working. Keep walking with God.

The fire must continue to burn.

4. They Could Find No Fault in Daniel

This part of the passage is very powerful. The men tried to find something against Daniel, but the Bible says:

“They could find no charge or fault, because he was faithful.”

— Daniel 6:4

Oh God, make me a pastor that people can find no fault in. Make me a man of God in whom no error can be found.

Church, this is possible when the Spirit of God is working abundantly in us.

This does not mean Daniel was incapable of making a mistake. It means that when his enemies searched for corruption, negligence, or wrongdoing, they could not find anything legitimate against him.

May our integrity speak louder than accusations.

The fire should form a life that is trustworthy, a person who can be trusted with responsibility, and someone whose private life supports their public testimony.

5. The Enemy Will Try to Use Your Faith Against You

Eventually, Daniel’s enemies realized that they could not find corruption in his work. So they said:

“We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.”

— Daniel 6:5

They knew Daniel’s faith, his convictions, and his relationship with God. So they decided to use the very thing that made Daniel different as a weapon against him.

Church, sometimes the enemy will try to attack you based on the very convictions you have declared. He may test you based on the Word you know or create a situation where your faith becomes costly.

And woe to us if the enemy brings a charge against us and we are actually found guilty.

This is why we must not only talk Christianity; we must live Christianity.

The fire must form something around us that cannot easily be destroyed by accusation.

6. Take Accountability for Your Own Life

This also reminds me of something from my own personal life in pastoral ministry.

There was a period when I felt I was flourishing and doing well, until one day I opened a door for the enemy to accuse me wrongly.

For Daniel, there was no such door. The Bible says they could find no fault in him.

But in my case, looking within myself and taking accountability as a pastor, I recognized that I should not have opened that door. I should not have made a particular joke. I should not have allowed the opportunity for accusation.

Even though the accusation that came against me was not true, I still took responsibility for the part I had played.

By God’s grace, He intervened. I prayed that the Lord would have mercy and restore my dignity, and God was faithful.

I share this not to glorify myself, but to remind us that we must take responsibility for our own spiritual lives.

Don’t give the enemy unnecessary ammunition. Daniel’s life challenges us to live with such integrity that even when people search for something against us, they find nothing legitimate.

7. You Can Take Many Things From Daniel, But Not His Upper Room

Now the enemies created a law that attacked Daniel’s prayer life.

When Daniel knew that the writing had been signed, the Bible says:

“He went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.”

— Daniel 6:10

This is one of the most powerful parts of Daniel’s story.

They could take his position. They could threaten his life. They could challenge his influence. But they could not take his upper room experience.

Because his upper room was what sustained him in every other room.

His upper room was where his relationship with God was strengthened, and what he cultivated privately eventually became visible publicly.

A person who consistently bows their knee before God will have the strength to stand before men.

8. Prayer Must Become a Lifestyle

The Bible does not say that Daniel suddenly decided to pray three times that day because he was in trouble. It says he prayed “as was his custom since early days.”

This was already his lifestyle.

Daniel didn’t create a prayer life because trouble came.

Trouble revealed the prayer life he already had.

Church, don’t wait for the lions’ den before developing your upper room.

Don’t wait for the crisis before learning to pray. Don’t wait until your marriage is in trouble before you learn to seek God. Don’t wait until your finances collapse before you develop dependence on God. Don’t wait until your ministry is attacked before you build your prayer life.

Build your upper room before the crisis comes.

The strength you need in public is developed in private.

9. The Upper Room Must Form Something in Every Room

Daniel’s upper room experience did not remain in the upper room.

It formed something around him: excellence in government, integrity in leadership, courage in crisis, wisdom in decision-making, consistency in his service to God, and a reputation that even an unbelieving king could recognize.

The same heart that compels you to posture yourself in the house of God with reverence must be the same heart you carry when you leave the house of God.

The same person who prays on Sunday must be the same person who works with integrity on Monday. The same person who worships in Church must be the same person who treats colleagues with respect at work.

The fire must travel.

From the upper room to every room. From prayer to action. From revelation to obedience. From encounter to transformation.

10. The King Knew Daniel Served God Continually

After Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den, the king said:

“Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.”

— Daniel 6:16

Notice that word:

Continually.

Even an unbelieving king knew Daniel as someone who served God continually.

Daniel’s faith was not hidden. His lifestyle had become a testimony.

And this is what we want in our generation. Not necessarily that we challenge everyone about their religion, but that our lives become so excellent, faithful, trustworthy, and different that people recognize the God we serve.

That is translating the fire.
