Daily Bible Plan - 1 Timothy 4

Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi

Theme: Sharing the Love of Christ to the Undying World — Church Without Walls

1. A Warning for the Last Days (vv. 1–5)

Paul begins with a sobering truth: in the last days, some will turn away from the true faith, following deceptive spirits and teachings that appear spiritual but are rooted in error.

In a never-dying world—where souls are eternal—this warning becomes even more urgent. Deception does not just mislead people temporarily; it affects eternal destinies.

Here we see Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, warning again about deceptive spirits and false teachings. There were those promoting doctrines that leaders should not marry or that certain foods should not be eaten—creating religious restrictions that God had already overruled through Christ.

Scripture affirms:

  • “Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks” (1 Timothy 4:4, NLT)

  • See also: Mark 7:19

  • And 1 Corinthians 10:20–21

So Paul teaches that everything God created is good when received with thanksgiving—while still exercising spiritual discernment.

Timothy is encouraged to teach these truths. This is why we emphasize marriage and family—because healthy families become channels through which the love of Christ is shared to a world that will never cease to exist.

2. A Faithful Minister Under Authority (vv. 6–10)

Paul now shifts to leadership.

Here we see how Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, instructs Timothy—his spiritual son—on how to lead the church. Leadership in God’s kingdom is never independent.

In the Church of Pentecost and in biblical order, pastors do not just lead—they are trained, guided, and led, regardless of their gifts and calling. That is God’s structure.

Any leader who is not under authority becomes vulnerable to wrong influence. Those without spiritual covering often drift and can become spiritually dangerous over time.

And in a never-dying world, we cannot afford unstable leadership. Souls are at stake.

Paul continues:

“Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas… instead, train yourself to be godly.”

He also warns about godless arguments. Baseless debates drain spiritual strength, weaken believers, and reduce effectiveness in ministry. Avoid them at all cost and channel your energy into prayer and godliness.

Because sharing the love of Christ requires spiritual strength, not distraction.

3. Be an Example Despite Your Age (vv. 11–12)

Paul tells Timothy:

“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example…”

This echoes what God told Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:7.

In a world that is watching, your life becomes the message.

People may not first read the Bible—but they will read you.

Be an example in:

  • Speech

  • Conduct

  • Love

  • Faith

  • Purity

This is how we share the love of Christ—not just by words, but by a life that reflects Him.

4. Devotion to the Word and Spiritual Growth (vv. 13–15)

Paul urges Timothy to stay grounded in:

  • Scripture

  • Encouragement

  • Sound teaching

I love reading this in the NLT—it brings such clarity.

He also reminds him: do not neglect the spiritual gift received through prophecy and the laying on of hands.

As I always say, never forget the prophecies spoken over your life. Those moments carry spiritual weight and direction.

Growth must be intentional. Paul says to give yourself completely so that everyone will see your progress.

Why? Because in a never-dying world, your growth increases your capacity to reach more souls with the love of Christ.

5. Watch Your Life and Doctrine (v. 16)

Paul ends with a powerful instruction:

“Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching.”

This is the balance:

  • Right living

  • Right teaching

Both are essential if we are to effectively share Christ with others.

Paul adds something profound:

Your faithfulness will not only preserve you but also those who hear you.

That means your life becomes a bridge—through which others encounter salvation.

Final Reflection

In a never-dying world, nothing we do for Christ is wasted.

This passage calls us to:

  • Discern truth from deception

  • Submit to godly authority

  • Live as examples

  • Grow intentionally

  • Guard both life and doctrine

Because at the center of it all is this mission:

To share the love of Christ to a world where every soul matters eternally.

Closing Note

Glad to have written this devotion, even in the midst of movement, and I trust it has truly blessed you. Pray for us.

Shalom.

"Be an example"

Jesus came down to earth to be an example for us and show us how to come to the father, which is through Him (John 14:6) Therefore we cannot just "believe" but we really need to embody Christ's character. And if we do that, we can be that light for people drawing them closer to God.

Thank you so much Pastor for your everyday commitment towards the devotions and us! God richly bless you and your wife and may the Lord bring you both back to Switzerland save and sound. Love.

How I love this sentence: In a world that is watching, your life becomes the message.

Because people see before they hear. They observe (subconsciously) before forming a judgment. What do they see then? A Christian who reflects the Word and the character of God, or someone whose actions do not align with their faith?

This shows me that the world is my podium, school/university is my altar, and the workplace is my stage. My life, my behavior, and my character are my sermon. Someone can encounter Christ simply by the way I offer a solution to them. Someone can encounter Christ by the way I acted in a stressful moment.

We must be aware that we shouldn't wait for…

Thank you Pastor for such a strong message despite being on holidays.

It has thought me to be careful and distinguish between the teachings of Christ and the teachings of false spirits. It has also shown me how important it is to grow in the word and speak the truth. Growing intentionally allows me to become a bridge through which others encounter salvation

May God continue to bless you, protect you in Ghana and bring you and your family back to Switzerland safely

God Bless you Pastor
