Prayer of The Day:
Lord, thank you that what fills my heart is reflected in my words and actions. Help me to store good things in my heart so that my words and life reflect your wisdom, truth, and love. Fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I may speak words that build up and encourage others. Teach me to wrestle in prayer and seek you with all my heart, trusting in your faithfulness.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
The Overflow of the Heart
The Bible teaches us that what is in our hearts will inevitably be revealed in our words and actions. Jesus said, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34). Our inner life shapes our outward behavior. If we fill our hearts with God’s truth, wisdom, and love, our words and actions will bring life. However, if we allow fear, bitterness, or sin to take root, this will also be reflected in our lives.
Biblical Foundations for Filling Your Heart with Goodness
1. Store God’s Word in Your Heart
Read: (Proverbs 2:1–11:)
• Key Message: God’s wisdom is a treasure to seek and store up (v.4). It fills our hearts and guides our lives (v.10).
• Outcomes: God grants wisdom, protection, and insight to those who seek Him sincerely (v.6–8).
• Application: Take time daily to read and meditate on God’s Word. His truth will shape your heart and influence your words.
Action Steps:
Reading: A daily habit of engaging with the Bible strengthens your spiritual life.
Seeking: Ask God for wisdom and understanding as you would seek a precious treasure.
2. Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
Read: (Matthew 12:22–45)
• Key Message: Jesus explains that our words are a reflection of our hearts. A good heart brings forth good, while an evil heart produces bad (v.34–35).
• Outcomes: We cannot change our hearts by our own strength—we need the Holy Spirit to transform us.
• Application: Be mindful of what you allow into your heart and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.
3. Wrestle with God in Prayer
Read (Genesis 32:1–33:20):
• Key Message: Jacob wrestled with God in a time of great distress (v.24). Through this struggle, his heart was changed, and he was able to reconcile with his brother Esau.
• Outcomes: Prayer is not always easy, but when we persist, God meets us and transforms us.
• Application: Trust that God hears you and will answer in His perfect timing.
Conclusion:
What fills our hearts will be reflected in our words and actions. By nourishing our hearts with God’s Word, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and persevering in prayer, we can ensure that what overflows from us is life, encouragement, and truth. Let your heart be filled with God’s goodness so that your words reflect His love.
