Prayer of The Day:

Heavenly Father, thank You for speaking to us. Help us to slow down, quiet our hearts, and truly listen to Your voice. May we hear You through Scripture, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Teach us to walk in Your wisdom and follow Your leading. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

How to Listen to God

Suppose I go to the doctor and list all my health issues. After speaking, I glance at my watch and rush out without hearing his response. The doctor might say, "Hang on, don’t you want to hear what I have to say?"

We often make the same mistake with God. We present our requests but don’t pause to listen. Yet, our relationship with Him is meant to be a two-way conversation. In a world filled with noise from media, social platforms, and daily concerns, how can we hear the voice of God?

Biblical Foundations for Listening to God throughout your Life

1. Listen to God’s Voice in the Scriptures

Read now (Proverbs 3:1–10):

  • Key Message: The primary way God speaks to us is through His Word. Proverbs encourages us to treasure His teachings and commands (v.1).

  • Application: When reading the Bible, ask God to reveal His truth. Memorizing Scripture helps us store His words in our hearts (v.3).

  • Encouragement: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart… Listen for God’s voice in everything you do’ (vv.5–6, MSG). Let Scripture shape your decisions and guide your path.

2. Listen to God Through thse Words of Jesu

Read now (Matthew 16:21–17:13):

  • Key Message: God audibly declared about Jesus, ‘Listen to him’ (17:5). The words of Jesus are the words of God.

  • Jesus' Teaching:

    • He warned His disciples about coming trials (16:21).

    • He taught that true life is found in self-sacrifice (16:24–26).

  • Application: We must ask in every decision—are we following God’s concerns or human concerns (v.23)? Listening to Jesus means aligning our lives with His truth.

3. Listen to God Throughout Your Life

Read now (Genesis 47:13–48:22):

  • Key Message: At the end of his life, Jacob reflected on how God had led him. ‘God… has been my shepherd all my life’ (48:15).

  • Faithful Listening:

    • Jacob worshipped, leaning on his staff, trusting in God's promises (47:31).

    • He passed down blessings, demonstrating faith in God’s guidance for future generations.

  • Application: Trust in God’s voice not just in one season but throughout life. Worship Him, recall His faithfulness, and encourage others to listen to the Shepherd (John 10:3–4).

Overall Takeaway

Listening to God requires intentionality. We must:

  • Prioritize Scripture as His voice.

  • Follow the teachings of Jesus.

  • Cultivate lifelong trust in His guidance.

Lord, help me not just to read Your words but to learn them, live by them, and bring honor to Your name. Teach me to truly listen. Amen.
