Daily Bible Plan – Acts of the Apostels 16 (Part 2)

11. March 2026

Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi

Theme: My Job, My Kingdom Assignment

Devotion: Acts 16 : 24 – 40

Introduction

Church family, as we continue in Acts of the Apostles 16:24–40, we see a powerful moment in the ministry of Paul the Apostle and Silas. After faithfully doing the work of God, they were beaten and thrown into prison. Their feet were fastened in stocks, and they were placed in the inner prison.

Yet what we see next is a remarkable testimony of faith. Instead of complaining, they turned their suffering into worship. This passage teaches us how believers should respond when obedience to God leads us into difficult situations.

1. A Spirit-Filled Believer Worships Even in Difficult Situations

The Bible tells us something powerful about their response.

📖 “But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.” (Acts 16:25)

Church, notice that they did not wait for their situation to improve before they worshipped. Even in pain, even in chains, they prayed and sang praises to God.

Sometimes we think worship is only for good moments, but true worship is revealed in difficult moments. When we continue to praise God in hardship, it shows that our faith is not dependent on circumstances.

2. God Can Turn a Prison into a Platform for His Power

As Paul and Silas worshipped, something supernatural happened.

📖 “Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.” (Acts 16:26)

Church, the place meant to silence them became the place where God demonstrated His power.

But notice something very important here: even though everyone’s chains were loosed and the prison doors were opened, Paul did not run away. The breakthrough did not make him forget his assignment.

Instead, he stayed.

Why? Because Paul understood that there was still a soul in that prison that needed salvation. When the jailer thought the prisoners had escaped, he was about to take his own life. But Paul stopped him.

📖 “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.” (Acts 16:28)

Church, this touches my heart deeply as a pastor. Paul was more concerned about the salvation of the jailer than about his own freedom. The man had lost hope and was ready to die, but Paul saw a soul that needed Christ.

What a heart for souls.

3. Our Faith Can Lead Others to Salvation

The jailer then asked one of the most important questions in Scripture:

📖 “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30)

And Paul responded:

📖 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31)

Church, the faithfulness of Paul and Silas in prison became the doorway for the salvation of an entire household.

Sometimes the very place where we suffer becomes the place where someone else encounters Christ.

4. Remember Your Citizenship

Later, when the authorities decided to release them quietly, Paul the Apostle revealed something important — he was a Roman citizen.

📖 “They have beaten us openly, uncondemned Romans… and now do they put us out secretly?” (Acts 16:37)

Because Paul was a citizen of Rome, the officers became afraid and came personally to escort them out.

Church, if earthly citizenship carried such authority, how much more our citizenship in heaven.

📖 “For our citizenship is in heaven.” — Epistle to the Philippians 3:20

If Roman officers trembled when they realized Paul’s legal standing, how much more should the powers of darkness tremble when they realize that we belong to the Kingdom of God.

May anyone fighting against your life, your calling, or your destiny speedily release you because of your heavenly citizenship.

Conclusion

Acts 16:24–40 reminds us:

• Worship must continue even in hardship.

• God can turn prisons into platforms for His power.

• Our faith can lead others to salvation.

• Our heavenly citizenship carries authority.

Church, sometimes your breakthrough is not just about you — it is about the soul God has placed near you.

📖 Chair Time

Open your Bible and read again:

Acts 16:24–40

Reflect on this:

• Do I worship God even in difficult situations?

• Am I sensitive to the souls God has placed around me?

• Do I understand the authority I carry as a citizen of heaven?

You may also meditate on Psalm 34 1

📖 “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

See you all tonight for prayer gym at 7pm

Most importantly share your learnings with us

Wow these Apostles🤯

Personally I think this Generation is to selfish, always acting as if they’re busy and tired. Bcause the only reason the Apostles were moving like that in the spirit back then was because they didn’t think about themselves but placed God first.

When true believers remain faithful, worshipful, and focused on God even in hardship, *God can turn their suffering into a testimony that leads others to salvation.* Sometimes the difficult place you are in is exactly where God wants to work through you!

Thank you so much Reverend Joseph for your powerful insight and Comms. Team for sharing. May God truly bless you all🙏🏾❤️

How far would we be willing to give up our freedom to set someone else free?

• When Paul was freed, he knew his mission was not yet complete; one soul was still trapped.

• When God opens doors for us, it always comes with a mission.

Sometimes, the very place where we suffer becomes the place where someone else encounters Christ.

• Jesus brings purpose to suffering, a mission in pain; everything is an opportunity to win souls.

May our hearts and faith be like Paul's; even in pain, even in chains, to pray and sing praises to God. May we never abandon our mission, but remain to save souls. May everyone who fights against us because of our…
