Devotion by Reverend Joseph Antwi
Theme: My Job, My Kingdom Assignment

Devotion: Acts 21
Introduction
Hello church family, welcome again to our daily devotion. Today we journey through Acts of the Apostles 21:1–40, and we continue to understand what it truly means to walk in our Kingdom assignment.
Before you read this devotion, take a moment:
Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you.
Read slowly.
And underline any verse that speaks directly to your heart during this chair time.
This is not just reading — this is fellowship with God.
⸻
1. The Holy Spirit Prepares You — Not Always to Avoid, But to Endure
📖 “A certain prophet named Agabus… took Paul’s belt… and said, ‘Thus says the Holy Spirit… the Jews at Jerusalem will bind this man…’” (Acts 21:10–11)
This is powerful.
Agabus was not an ordinary prophet. In earlier chapters (Acts 11:28), he prophesied a famine — and it came to pass.
So this was a credible, proven prophetic voice.
Yet when the prophecy came, the believers pleaded with Paul not to go.
📖 “They pleaded with him not to go up to Jerusalem.” (Acts 21:12)
But here is the mystery:
Paul did not reject the prophecy — he accepted it.
He did not run from it — he walked into it.
This shows us something deep:
The Holy Spirit may reveal suffering, not to stop you, but to prepare you.
⸻
2. A Kingdom Assignment Embraces the Cost
📖 “I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die… for the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 21:13)
Paul counted it an honor.
He saw suffering not as loss — but as part of the assignment.
This aligns with Scripture:
📖 “For to you it has been granted… not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake.” — Epistle to the Philippians 1:29
📖 “If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.” — Second Epistle to Timothy 2:12
Church, this is a hard truth:
Your Kingdom assignment will sometimes require sacrifice, discomfort, and even suffering — but it carries eternal reward.
⸻
3. Obedience Over Emotion
The believers loved Paul. Their plea was emotional and genuine.
But Paul chose obedience over emotion.
Church, sometimes people who love you may advise you out of fear, not faith.
You must discern the difference.
Your assignment must be led by God — not by pressure, fear, or even well-meaning voices.
⸻
4. Not Everyone Will Understand Your Assignment
When Paul arrived in Jerusalem, there was misunderstanding, tension, and suspicion.
Church, not everyone will understand what God has called you to do.
Even spiritual people can misinterpret your assignment.
Stay focused.
⸻
5. Opposition Is Part of the Assignment
📖 “They seized Paul… and sought to kill him.” (Acts 21:30–31)
Opposition came quickly and violently.
But hear this clearly:
Opposition does not mean you are out of God’s will.
Sometimes it is proof you are exactly where God wants you.
⸻
6. God Preserves You for Purpose
In the middle of chaos, Roman authorities stepped in and rescued Paul.
God used unexpected systems to preserve His servant.
Church, if God has given you an assignment, He will keep you until it is fulfilled.
⸻
7. A Kingdom Servant Remains Bold
After everything — the beating, the arrest, the chaos — Paul still asked to speak.
📖 “He motioned with his hand to the people…” (Acts 21:40)
What a heart.
Pain did not silence him.
Pressure did not stop him.
His assignment was bigger than his situation.
⸻
Conclusion
Acts 21 teaches us:
• The Holy Spirit prepares you for what is ahead
• True obedience includes embracing the cost
• Choose God’s will over emotional pressure
• Not everyone will understand your assignment
• Opposition is part of the journey
• God will preserve you
• Stay bold no matter what
Church, your Kingdom assignment is not about comfort — it is about obedience.
⸻
📖 Chair Time
Read:
Acts 21:1–40
As you read:
• Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you
• Read slowly and intentionally
• Underline any verse that speaks to you
Reflect
• Am I willing to obey even when it costs me?
• Do I run from difficult assignments or embrace them?
• Am I led by the Spirit or by emotions?
Pray
Lord, teach me to follow You fully. Give me the strength to embrace my Kingdom assignment, even when it is difficult. Help me to trust You, obey You, and remain bold. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏
